Q: Am I showing signs of a heart attack of some sort?
The deal is that the past three days, doesn’t matter what time of the day that I feel like my chest is being pressed on. I also noticed a lot more ” burping”. Granted I am not it the best of shape but I am only 48 ( is that young?), a little young for worrying about this?

A: Talk to your doctor, Chest constriction is certainly one of the signs of a heart attack, though they vary a lot from person to person and are hard to pinpoint. It is possible it is something else (acid reflux, etc), but to be safe call your doctor (soon!) and talk to him about it, if it gets worse go to the ER right away.

48 isnt too young to have a heart attack.

Q: What are the most common early warning signs of a heart attack?

A: For men the symptoms are more common but generally they are:
squeezing chest pain (especially on the left side)
some describe as “elephant sitting on my chest”
pain may go from chest to jaw or arm
sweating; weakness; nausea; dizziness

I once had a patient with a heart attack whose only pain was in his big toe.

Women often have more stomach type pain and many mistake the symptoms for indigestion.

Q: What are the signs of a heart attack? Are you suppose to feel something in your arm or just or your chest?
Please explain it to me.

A: There are many signs and symptoms of a heart attack [also known as an MI ] {for medical use a sign is something you and another can see and symptoms are something a person feels} Most people think you only feel chest pain during a MI but most do not feel this they can feel discomfort in the left arm, jaw, and/or upper back. They may also feel nauseated, have a dizzy headache feel, belching, feel short of breath, and heaviness in the chest [most describe this as the feeling like something is sitting on their chest]

Unfortunately too many ignore their symptoms and may not survive due to not seeking medical care. Their are also those who just do not feel right but can not describe exactly what is wrong, in medicine we call this a feeling of impending doom.
I hope this helps you as I condensed it to the most important parts.

Q: I need to know if signs of a heart attack can happen weeks before the attack…I have very bad anxiety and i?
often get a paion behind my left breast that goes into my back. I have it checked many times and its nothing….yesterday my husband was rubbing my back and he rubbed this spot in my shoulder pain and it was like WOW that hurts…..i dont remember doing anything to pull anything..but it is still hurting this morning.I took a asprin..I also keep breaking out in hot sweats.I am only 47 year old female…130 lbs but pretty out of shape….i worry constanatly and i can feel my heart beating in the side of my breasts all the time…and the least activivty i get out of breath….the pain has been pretty constant..would any of this be signs of heart attack? My coloring is fine..Its proberly my anxiety..any one with experience or advice..its also starting to hurt in my right shoulder blade..I take xanax for anxiety

A: I have heart disease and you are just about describing some symptoms that I get and hurt real bad. I was shocked to read, that someone else gets what I get. I think you should see your doctor and tell him all this asap, especially if your arms get weak or you begin sweating from your neck up. It was good you took the aspirin too. It could be one of several things, and you should not ignore it. I do not believe it is just “good ol menopause”. I wish you luck and then some.

Q: what are some signs of a Heart Attack?
My mother was experiecing some chest pains lastnight said her chest was heavy what are some other signs that she might be having a heart attack im worried ?

A: Tightening chest muscle, a tight chest. Also a pain down the left arm is a sgn of a heart attack. Feeling nauseated is a common symptom and she may have felt really groggy. Please do yourself a favour and get her checked out. Its better to be safe than sorry

Q: Could these be signs of a heart attack in a woman in her 50s?
Feeling of tightness in the chest and fatigue, both over a period of a few days.
What do ye think?

Thanks guys :)

A: Definitely could be a heart attack especially at that age. This woman needs to be evaluated by a doctor ASAP regarding this. The sooner a heart attack is treated…the better the outcome. It is certainly possible that these symptoms could be secondary to something else, but only an appropriate evaluation by a doctor can determine this.

Q: What’s the average time between warning signs of a heart attack, and an actual heart attack?

A: ” All the time there is to get a diagnosis done for even the single doubt of having one and no time when the actual heart attack takes place. “

The following are some of the signs :

.Chest Discomfort or Pain
- Sudden discomfort or pain in the chest area that lasts longer than 15 minutes.
- The chest area may include the neck or throat, jaw, shoulder, one or both arms or back, especially between the shoulder blades.
- The discomfort or pain may feel like burning, squeezing, heaviness, tightness, or pressure.
- Heart attack discomfort or pain may or may not be severe but it typically covers an area that is impossible to cover with one single hand.
- Discomfort or pain that feels like indigestion but encompasses a large area (larger than one hand flattened)
- In women, the discomfort/pain may be more vague

.Sudden Shortness of Breath, or Sudden Difficulty Breathing

.Nausea and Vomiting

.Sweating

Should you experience any of these, call 911, or have someone drive you immediately to the hospital. DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF.

Good Luck !

Q: what are the signs of a heart attack?
my mom woke up in the middle of the night..she told me she felt she had a heavy tongue.whats wrong with her?she’s been so stressed this month.

A: Chest pain ,weak pulse .

Q: Whats that free scan for the early signs of cancer/heart attack free for those between 30-70 ?
It was on the TV its basically a non intrusive way to scan for the early signs of cancers heart decease etc
It was free and its better than nothing!

A: cINDY! – Now, in the USA, there is a big advertising campaign for individual health screening similar to what you mention. While someplace may provide it free, almost all will charge between $100 and $200 dollars. Often it operates out of a traveling van with equipment. It is not designed to detect the over 200 types of cancer, but is does check heart and vascular disease. After a routine history, pulse, and blood pressure check, it used ultrasound type machine over the skin at various body locations.. In the neck it check the carotid artery for calcium arteriosclerotic narrowing that could lead to strokes. Over the heart it checks the thickness of heart walls (hypertrophy) for strain and again calcium in coronary heart arteries. Elsewhere in the chest and belly the main artery, the aorta is scanned for any bulges of a fragile aneurysm in the vessel wall. Lower, it does the same for the iliac and femoral arteries of the pelvis and thigh. It is still very much in question whether it is worth the cost.

Q: are these signs of a heart attack?
It started about a week ago i feel discomfort in the middle of my chest above my breast sometimes it hurts by my left breast and goes to my right breast. Also burning sensations sometimes.I’m not sure what it can be.

A: You be the judge. Here are the symptoms from the American Heart Association. All I will add is that they can go on for weeks / months ( if you live long enough) untreated causing more damage to your heart:

Heart Attack Warning Signs
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense — the “movie heart attack,” where no one doubts what’s happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren’t sure what’s wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness
As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain.

Learn the signs, but remember this: Even if you’re not sure it’s a heart attack, have it checked out. Minutes matter! Fast action can save lives — maybe your own. Don’t wait more than five minutes to call 9-1-1.

Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. Emergency medical services staff can begin treatment when they arrive — up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. The staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. Patients with chest pain who arrive by ambulance usually receive faster treatment at the hospital, too.

If you can’t access the emergency medical services (EMS), have someone drive you to the hospital right away. If you’re the one having symptoms, don’t drive yourself, unless you have absolutely no other

Q: Does high blood pressure always precede a heart attack or stroke?
I’m under my doctor’s care for pregnancy-induced hypertension, so my BP is checked regularly and has been fine recently. If my BP is fine, can I quit worrying about waking up in the middle of the night with a stroke or heart attack?

Sign me,
Paranoid Momma-to-Be

A: stroke has nothing to do with high blood pressure, just relax, i have 3 kids and had a hole in the heart operation when i was 6, they told me i could nt have kids cos of my heart, i have always had high blood pressure, had 3 kids naturally but had drugs to calm my heart down after i had had them, technology is brilliant nowadays and you will be fine, relax , stop worrying and u will be fine good luck

Q: I need advice on signs after a heart attack?
my husband had a heart attack last week and just got home yesterday. I know it is normal to be weak and short of breath all of that but he is sitting at the table can barely breath and is broke out in a sweat. He refuses to let me take him to the er cause he is tired of hospitals could this just be an after thing or somethng more serious and I can’t call the doctor or he will be even madder. Help I am scared.

A: This is why men die so young b/c they are stubborn and pigheaded. Here’s is a web site that may have some info for you, Good Luck!

Q: What do I do? Am I having anxieties or the warning signs of a heart attack? Should I go to the hospital?
I’ve been getting pressure in my chest, I’ve been dizzy, and I feel like I have to force myself to breathe, not to mention I’m also feeling very weak… I went to the hospital earlier this morning (2:00 am to be exact) and they said it was anxieties… Are these symptoms anxieties? Or are they something more? I feel so stupid for asking these questions… I’m 18 by the way…

A: I have a nurses’ license. Do not, I repeat, do not play when it comes to forcing yourself to breathe. You get only one life and do not risk any thing. Each Doctor has an opinion and you should ALWAYS get a second one. Go to the emergency room as soon as you can. This is not a joke. Dizziness too? Go Now.

Q: if you take heart medication and having dizzy spell and swelling is that signs of a heart attack?
like swelling of the feet and hands short of breath and sharp pains in your chest with heart burn

A: You don’t really give either a detailed history, nor list your medication which makes answering difficult.

It is unlikely that you are having a heart attack but the swelling and breathlessness mean you should be chatting to your GP.
