Q: cramp in my chest? when i was running today for first time in 30days and felt like clog in my chest?

A: its just from being inactive for a long period of time. i ran the other day and got the same chest pain because it had been awhile since i had run. in order to get rid of it just start running more on a regular basis or slow your speed down and limit the amount of time you run for.

Q: Why does my heart/chest feel heavy?
I was running the track today, and I think I was on my 4th or 5th lap when this happened. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it felt like my heart suddenly got a little heavy and running in this condition didn’t really feel well. This is the first time that this has ever happened. Can someone tell me what was happening back there?

A: Just take it easy and when you run a next time.. although I believe it probably means nothing at all .. maybe it was the weather it was something you ate or you had not run for a while and it happened for that reason…Next time you run if this happens again you go and see your doctor…and have an ECG done… that should help you rule out that there is anything wrong with your heart…Just think about how long did that heavy feeling in your chest last… was it for minutes? Did you feel bad all day long? Did you feel alright when you stopped running and just walked? Everybody gets sick sometimes.. probably that was just it… if it should happen again though then don’t wait and go see the doctor.. an ECG is quickly done and you get the results pretty soon…but don’t worry unless you are still feeling like this now…xx

Q: why when you run your chest feels like it is really cold and heavy? it really hurts.?
and i’m pretty thin, but not in shape. i just started back up running. but the thing is that this has allways really happend to me. If im in shape or not. And its allways really hard to breath when i run…well sometimes, also really HARD to catch my breath, even if im in shape. So my question is, is this normal???

Q: Does your chest ever feel heavy when listening to music? I mean literally?
Whenever you listen to a slow sad song, does your chest or heart ever feel literally heavy? Or like it’s about to explode or something? Almost as if you’re running out of breath and at the same time you just want to cry to relieve it? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense. Just wondering though.

Q: why do i get shoulder pain when i run/do heavy cardio?
I am not at all a runner but I attend a kickboxing class and I often experience shoulder pain when we are really working out hard and almost always when I run, especially outside. It doesn’t radiate to my neck or chest just my right shoulder feels like it really needs to be streched like it’s really tight.

How can I prevent this?

A: It could be referred pain from the heart (pumping) and it doesn’t have to go as far as the neck. No pain in the chest is a little confusing – making diagnosis difficult. See a doctor for a minor checkup. Stethoscope on your heart, maybe ultrasound to the shoulder.

A: my friend had something like this. i can’t remember exactly what it was called, but it’s common in young women, and it can be cured by advil. i’m not SURE that’s what u had, but that’s what it sounds like. good luck.

A: Any chest pain should be looked at by a doctor. It could be cardiac related and thats nothing to guess about over yahoo.

If its just related to when you breathe in & out, you could have an infection, like a pleural rub.

Again, that too should be seen by a doctor.

Q: How do you know when your doing intense cardio?
How do you know when you are doing intense cardio? Are signs of intense cardio, really fast heart beat, (heart feels like its going to jump out of chest), heavy breathing during running, dizzyness when done, tingling feeling in legs? Would these be signs that im doing very intense cardio such as sprinting, and running a distance as fast as i can without passing out?

these symptons usually last for about 10 after running 1 mile.

A: want an exact answer????go to a gym,get on treadmill,it will tell you your heart rate vs what it is supposed to be for your age and weight….

Q: whats going on my chest feels heavy i cant breath well ant i cough alot when i run around.?
this has been hapening for about a 3 weeks

A: Bronchitis? See your doctor for a check. Anti biotics and it’ll be gone. If you’re a smoker stop smoking.

Q: Fatigue when working out.?
I can understand maybe if I was starting after a long break, but I started a few months ago and work out consistantly every other day, and I still get shaking muscles and slight fatigue when I work out, is that normal? I have a doctor’s appointment but the soonest I can get in is 3 weeks from now. Also when I go out running I get pretty heavy chest pain, it gets hard to breathe but there’s no wheezing or stridor, just crushing anginal chest pain, but it’s on and off, someday’s I run with no discomfort and it feels like I can run forever. My nutrition is good and my sleep habits are good, blood pressure stays in normal range, and blood/sugar is normal. Any thoughts?

A: eat slow digesting carbs about 1 1/2 hours before you work out and then fast digesting carbs 30 minutes before like a banana. its what i do and i used to get that “high” feeling if that’s what youre talking about. shot to about 20-30 grams of carbs. it helps you last longer. also up your protein.
and when you run you should always breathe in threw your nose and out oyur mouth at a moderate pace!

Q: when i work out i start to get a huge chest ache, why?
when i work out (cardio and stuff) after a while when i start jumping i start to get a pain in my chest, between my lungs, i mean right where the left ribs get to the right ones. this happens when i do heavy moves like jumping, running and things that include a lot of movements. it feels like a bullet!
i am 21 years old, 165lbs (75kg), 5′ 9″ (177cm) and a non smoker. when i was very young i had some problems with my lungs, i had chest pains everytime i got cold! could this be the reason?

A: You have pinched muscles in your back. When you do the exercises you cause the extra pressure of the exercises to press the muscles into pain. When muscles are pinched in the rib area the pain likes to follow the ribs to the front and manifest themselves as rib, chest or heart type of pains. You have to release your back muscles to get rid of the pain. Here’s how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Q: My chest hurts when breathing?
So, today during gym we were running the mile. I got really heavy breathing, shortness of breath, and pressure in my chest. It took like 15-45 minutes for me to be able to actually breath right. This has happened to me before, but never this long or bad. Now my chest hurts when breathing in. What could be wrong?

A: It might be asthma babe, but if you haven’t had any symptoms before, then it’s probably not and you don’t need to worry. The doc will have you do some breathing exercises and take some records. He might prescribe you some meds to take for a while whenever you get like that, and see if you see an improvement.
Also, if you do have asthma, you might wanna try swimming. I have really bad asthma and swim all the time and it doesn’t affect you like other stuff like running and basketball etc. It’s weird, but swimming doesn’t make you think you’re dying!! So don’t worry about the bloody gym membership going to waste lol!

Q: Chest pain during heavy respiration?
I had some chest pain the other day while running a mile. It didn’t start until I started breathing very quickly and heavily. The pain sharp but not excruciating and was coming from the right side of my chest a few inches under my collar bone when I was inhaling. When I exhaled the pain went away. I’m nearly certain it is coming from my right bronchi. Does anyone know what this might be?

A: No offense, but it’s a bad idea to trust us Yahoo Answers people to diagnose a medical condition online. We aren’t experts like your physician is. The best thing to do is to document your experiences in a journal and make an appointment with your family physician. Bring the journal to your appointment and give your doctor the most information as possible so he or she can make an accurate diagnosis.

Q: Tips to control breathing during running?
I’ve started running and I’m not sure if it is just because I’ve started or maybe i’m doing something wrong. I find that after running a few yards my breathing becomes heavy and my chest starts pounding. then when i slow down it gets worse. I know about the whole breathe in through the nose and out the mouth thing and I do that. Does anyone know whats up. is this something that will go away as i run more?

A: try singing a cadence of some sort.
i went to ft.stewart military school and we had to run miles a day, but to keep from getting to bad out of breathe the srgt’s would always make us sing a cadence, so try singing a song or something while your running, it’s one of the best ways to control your breathing i think, plus every branch of the military does it, it deffinately works.

and the stopping and it getting worse thing, u should never go from running to a dead stop, bad for your heart, u should at least walk circles when your through so you can gradually lower your breathing and heart rate

Q: Slowest on my track team and also have chest pains while running, tips?
So in the fall, I ran cross country at my school and I could run the ~3 miles without stopping, but I got 26 minutes as my best time, which was even then 4 minutes behind anybody. Now that track comes along, I expected that I’d be worse, but now I’m having troubles running even a mile. We’ve been practicing for two weeks and I am still having to slow down from everyone else before we even finish the first mile.
We had to run with the sprinters of the team one day last week, and even the sprinters who I’ve asked and they’ve never ran over a mile in a long time, but even those kids still beat me when we ran 2 miles. I would think that with my cross country experience and these few weeks of track that I would be able to beat someone, but I was 3 or 4 minutes behind every person.
I am just wondering if there is an easy way to get better, because through the 3 months of cross country I did not notice a big difference in my speed, and I also still get winded within 2 minutes, to the point where I feel sick to my stomach and people think something is wrong because of how hard I am breathing. I am not fat, about 150 pounds at 6 foot, which I don’t think is too fat because most of my friends are heavier than me, so I don’t really know what I am doing wrong.
I also occasionally get a very sharp pain in my chest, around where my heart is (I know it’s not my heart, but it is in that area). This happens sometimes and when it happens I usually try to just push through it but I usually end up not being able to take big breaths without feeling like my heart is going to explode. Does anyone else have this, and know what causes it?
Any help is appreciated, I know there is no ‘magic’ way to get better, but I know there must be something that I am doing wrong if so many other people seem to be doing better than me. Thanks!

A: I was just like that in my first cross country season. I started off with 30 minutes for the 5k, and brought it down to only 22 by the end of the season, which was still behind a lot of people. Make sure that you eat right. Tons of carbohydrates and lots of water.
One thing that makes running training a million times easier is to find someone to run with. Sometimes, when there are people who are far ahead and far behind, I end up running alone for a bit, and I can confidently say that it is much harder. It helps to have someone next to you making you push yourself. This may sound a bit evil, but if you can’t find anyone on your team at the moment who can run at your speed, try getting a friend from outside to join, because 9/10 times, as they improve, you will push yourself to keep up with them.
One more thing that I took a while to realize is that as you improve, so does everyone else. So if you are still 3-4 minutes behind the more experienced people, don’t think that you aren’t improving. THe fact is that everyone else is improving with you.
About the whole thing where kids doing sprinting are faster than you: There are plenty of sprinters who are faster than us distance kids. Some of them crossed over to distance and they still dominated. People can be naturally talented, and once sprinters get to a certain point of experience, they can run almost as fast as distance kids at shorter distances like 1-2 miles.
I hope this helped. If nothing works, then you shouldn’t give up hope. There are people on our team who have been running track for 4 years, and they’ve said how much they sucked in their first year of cross country. Sometimes all it takes is more experience, and something just “clicks” in your body. You start to learn rhythm, and how to pace yourself, and then how to make yourself run even faster. It can take much longer than the 3 months of cross country.
