Q: 32 weeks pregnanct with high blood pressure?
ive been having trouble breathing and can feel my heart beating in my chest that was the other day. yesterday i was sitting down and started to see stars. im not sure whats going on but its freaking me out. i checked my blood pressure and it was 142/82 it has just recently started to rise. is this something i should be worried about?

A: I would go to the Er because it is possible you have preclampsia you seem to have some symptoms of it and it could be very bad for you and baby. I would really go get it checked out to make sure!

Q: Blood pressure question at 36 weeks pregnant?
Two weeks ago my doctor notified me that my blood pressure was slightly high compared to past visits at 130/90. They checked it again last Monday and it was still slightly high. I went back yesterday and my blood pressure was lower but I also had the day off do to the weather so i am wondering if my day off had something to do with the lower bp. They did say that I had protein in my urine. They said if I start to swell or have a headache or blurred vision then to call the office. I was talking to someone today about the high blood pressure and she asked if I had been seeing stars. I had recently been seeing stars and I never thought about the stars being one of the symptoms. I am trying to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this. My doctor said on Monday that I would have to go on bed rest if I get worse. I saw a nurse practitioner yesterday who seemed less concerned. Any help please. Im trying to finish up the next two weeks of work but my health and babies health are of course more important. Thanks for your help!

A: I don’t really know if the day off could have impacted your blood pressure but I think the protein in your urine is a concern since it is accompanied by heightened BP. I have been on partial bed rest for about a week now because of possible pre-eclampsia. It started with my BP beginning to rise as well as a lot of swelling in my feet, legs and hands. (sometimes in my face as well.) About 3-4 weeks ago they began keeping a closer eye on me and bringing me in more to check my urine and BP. At my appt today I had protein in my urine and my blood pressure remains a bit high so my doctor has scheduled me for an induction next week. I would say if your blood pressure is on the higher end that you should not be working. I am sure that your doctor will watch you and make sure that if you need to stop working that you do, and that if anything else is going on, you will be closely monitored.
Oh I forgot to mention that I started seeing stars(or what looked like bright lights) a lot too but have been seeing them less now that I am taking it easy.

Q: 38 weeks pregnant: swelling, numbness, seeing “stars”?
Hi all! I’m 38 weeks pregnant with my second child, due May 19th (if I make it that far!).

Problem is that I look like a blowfish! It was just my feet and then my hands, and now my face is puffy too. I’ve tried laying down, on my left side, my back, my right side, standing on my head (just kidding!)…drinking plenty of water and cool showers. I stay away from sodium so I know that’s not the problem.

Also have numbness/tingling/pins and needles in my left hand which is HORRIBLE in the morning but gets better throughout the day, though it is still there at night.

Been seeing a lot of “stars” lately too. Not doing anything when it happens. I could understand that if I was active or stood up too fast or moved too quickly, but it just happens out of nowhere. Not sure why, and the dr at the hospital ruled out high blood pressure (it was 140/80…I usually run 100/70 or so, so why he said it wasn’t high is beyond me).

Just looking to see if anyone has a suggestion.
I have a drs appt tomorrow at 1 pm (luckily it was already scheduled for tomorrow with all these fun new problems!)…

Thanks for all the great answers – I am calling the on call dr at the hospital now just to make sure I will be okay till I’m at the dr’s tomorrow.

Worst part – I’m an hour away from my hospital, so if I go down there and they send me home again, I’ll be so upset! LOL

This is no fun anymore!!!

A: Dear friend, you are a picture of me about 11 months ago. My son is now almost 10 months, and I was enormous with swelling my last two months. I too watched the salt intake, and had no blood pressure problems. Cool showers and lots of water did not seem to matter. The only thing that worked for me (and i hated every second of it) was laying down with a fan on me, and my feet in the air. Still, that only helped as long as I was laying down. In a matter of hours of walking (or working) my feet and legs started to blow up again.
Remember that swelling is part of pregnancy. Certainly not to the extent we both seem to have had, but all sorts of weird things happen: birthmarks can also swell and grow, and EVERY part of your body swells, too – including the unmentionable areas.
Again, try and keep those ankles up, and this may also be a good time to have your birthing partner/coach practice the hand massage. Having them massage the hand/arm will certainly help circulation in your body and will relieve the tingling and numbness.
It sounds like you have already ruled out Preeclampsia as you said you saw the doc already. At this point you should be seeing your OB weekly anyway (mine checked my blood pressure every visit as a standard practice). I’m sure they will keep an eye on it. Naturally, if you get alarmed, call the doc. Better safe than sorry. However, it really sounds like my experience, which was normal pregnancy ailments.
Good luck and P&PT for a safe delivery and healthy baby!

Q: What does this mean…. seeing stars?
I have been having this weired thing where, when I stand up or move I see these little bright specks that look like shooting stars, I know this sounds funny but I have a feeling its caused by having high or low blood pressure. I do have HBP controlled with medication, but I’m just wondering if anyone has had this before. Its so hard to explain! Please can anyone help me?
I had hypoglecimea while pregnant with my daughter. so this could just be that maybe? do you know of any sites?

A: Hey there,

In my Pregnancy record book given to me by the docs it states that if you have these stars/lights in your eyes you should contact your doc or midwife immediately as it is a sign of pre eclampsia.

I had this a few weeks ago at about 30 weeks i think it was and i rang my midwife and she said i was to go straight to hospital and get checked. They checked my blood pressure and protein in my urine. Luckily it was all fine however seeing as though you already have HBP i would reccommend calling someone now.

I’m not trying to freak you out, I’m sorry but this can mean baby and you are in danger. Please call someone so that you feel reassured.

Q: 37 weeks pregnant and seeing stars?
My doctor already said my blood pressure was high, im swelling a lot, and she found protein in my urine. These are all 3 big signs of preeclampsia, but I have not been diagnosed with it yet, even though Im pretty sure thats what it is. Today, I started swelling, feeling really hot and itchy, I thought I was going to break out into hives, and I started to feel numb, then I seen little dots all over the place, it looked like sparkles, and lasted for about 2-3 minutes.

It was weird. I think my blood pressure is getting higher and higher each day. I go back to the dr. on the 14th, but i dont want to wait that long. Has anyone else seen stars while they were pregnant? Does it have to do with preeclampsia? I know that if I have developed this condition, that I will ben induced and the baby will most likely be fine, since these symptoms have just all of a sudden showed up once I was 36 weeks. Im thankful all this didnt show up earlier, but im basically full-term now so if i deliver i will have a healthy baby girl.

Im just a little freaked out as to why im seeing stars and getting all tingly and stuff? its pretty odd…

A: You are best to visit the ER or if you have a care provider or place/person to call then contact them.

You are describing preeclampsia and now that you are having disturbances with your vision, you really do need to be checked out for you and your baby’s sake. I would not wait until 14th.

Symptoms of preeclampsia:

Hypertension
Swelling or Edema
Proteinuria
Sudden Weight Gain
Headache
Nausea or Vomiting
Changes in Vision
Racing pulse, mental confusion, heightened anxiety, trouble catching your breath
Stomach or Right Shoulder Pain
Lower back pain
Hyperreflexia

Q: Have you heard of Mona Vie & the effects that it has?
I was optimistic when I 1st started drinking Mona Vie. Mona vie is 19 different berries with the acai berry being the star of the show. This super juice promotes joint health. All my life I suffered from migranes, high blood pressure & since August 2008 I have been drinking Mona vie & my migranes are completely gone and my blood pressure is normal.

A: Yes, MonaVie is a fantastic antioxidant!
MovaVie is basically just like any other Acai juice… just some different “other fruits” for flavoring and likely more than twice the price as the others (you seldom taste a lot of the Acai itself). That being said, Acai in general is very beneficial for overall health, and we have hundreds of customers that buy various Acai products.
With the nutrients in Acai, I’m not surprised that your blood pressure is better, nor that your migraines are gone.

Most Multi-Level Marketing companies jack the price way up to pay for all the people that were hired above the person that sells it to you, not to mention all their advertising. It’s best to do the research before buying anything that expensive.

Q: why arnt my Dr’s concerned?!?!?
im 35 weeks pregnant, with high blood pressure!! im getting the head aches and seeing stars and iv even fainted!!! why are they not concerned about this?!?! shouldn’t they be?!?! any help would be great!!!

A: Yes, they should be concerned. Hassle them until they take you seriously.

Q: White hazy vision during pregnancy?
I am 33 weeks pregnant. In the past week, there have been two incidents where it’s almost like my pupils dilate for no reason and let in too much light. It’s not like seeing stars when you pass out (been there, done that) because I don’t even begin to lose consciousness. It’s more like trying to see in a dark room after being out on a very sunny day. My head doesn’t hurt to start with but after about 5 minutes, it does begin to ache. This isn’t high blood pressure related because my BP is on the low side (last appt. 95/67) and I’m orthostatic with or without pregnancy, so I know the difference between this and a low blood pressure incident. I have a doctor’s appt. Wednesday afternoon and I WILL go sooner if it happens again before then, but does anyone have an idea of what it might be, or if it could be pregnancy related?

A: Is there a possibility it could be hypoglycemia? I had the vision problem you are describing with all of my pregnancies, and they always tested my blood sugar levels…they were fine and the doc. never pursued anything further. It could be that it is close to your due date and your body is going through a large toll right now. Hope everything turns out ok!

Q: Could this be the beginning of Preeclampsia?
My blood pressure is usually 100/60ish. I have never known the top number to be more than 103 or 104. This morning after I got up, my hands were really swollen, along with my legs and feet. I thought, “Oh, this is cute! I’m getting the swelling that comes with pregnancy!” The swelling went down a few hours later. I went to the store and while I was there, I checked my blood pressure as I always do, and it was 130/80 (this was hours after the swelling went down.) I am 25 weeks pregnant. I researched high blood pressure on the internet, and read about preeclampsia. I read that another symptom could be seeing stars. About 4 days ago, I was in the shower and I saw the brightest lights floating around in front of me. I was a little freaked out, but after about 1 minutes, the lights went away. It hasn’t happened again since then. I AM GOING TO CALL MY DOCTOR IN THE MORNING, but I was wondering if other people who have had preeclampsia could share their insights or experiences? I’m a bit worried. I appreciate your help!

A: I don’t have preeclampsia, but I did have all the signs and symptoms (blood pressure, protein in urine, seeing stars, mild headache) but my blood tests came back normal when they tested, so they didn’t diagnose. My blood pressure went down into a normal range about a month later.

Everything you describe is definitely a sign of preeclampsia. 130/80 isn’t normally considered high blood pressure (140/90 is considered high), but since your blood pressure is normally pretty low the major increase can still indicate preeclampsia. I’m glad you’re going to call your doctor in the morning. Good luck, and I hope all is well.

Q: How Do I know If my Preclampsia is bad?
At 20 weeks i was told i had preclampsia. After my feet had been swollen for over a month, my hands swollen on some days (usually mornings) they ran some test, had me do a 24 urine (which showed 344 in protein). Im now 27 weeks, my blood pressure has been pretty good so far with some days borderline high. 138/80. Normally im 110/60. My doctors havent put me on any medcine for the high blood pressure. Just told me take some tums daily. But I have been seen weekly since 20 weeks. Ive been dizzy, seen stars, terrible back aches, been swollen for almost 3 months straight, ive done so many 24 urines, but Im not sure if its a bad case or not. Ive asked if they would be taking the baby early and they said we will see around 32 weeks. Im so lost. Is this a bad case or do you think I will deliver at 40 weeks?

A: This is a serious medical question.
Don’t rely on us twits here.
Ask your DR. IF you don’t like the answers, get a 2nd opinion or 3rd.

Q: Do you think these are signs of preeclampsia or not?
Ok i had preeclampsia with my first baby…over 7years ago. But it was found at the end of my pregnancy…about 2wks before i had my son and was mainly because of my high blood pressure. I think i may be getting it again…i am 28wks pregnant now and although my blood pressure has been fine so far along….these past few days i have getting headaches and sometimes if i get up to fast or something its like i am seeing stars…also i think i have gained alot of weight (30lbs) already. Do you think this is just normal or maybe a sign of preeclampsia??? Thanks for all answers in advance.

A: Hi there. I am 35 weeks pregnant with my first, and currently being monitored very closely for pre-eclampsia.

Dizziness, headaches and seeing stars are all signs of pre-eclampsia. You should go to the hospital and get checked out, especially since you have high blood pressure and a history of pre-eclampsia.

How are your feet, hands and face looking? It is possible that you have gained the excessive weight because of oedema/water retention which, again, is one of the main pre-eclampsia symptoms. You should also have your urine tested for excessive protein. Surely this is something your doctors have been monitoring at each antenatal visit?

28 weeks is pretty early to be showing signs, because pre-eclampsia does usually set in during late pregnancy, but my doctors have been monitoring me since 22 weeks, so it is never too soon!

If I was you – I would go straight to the hospital and get checked out. I have been admitted twice for 24-hour observations of BP and protein testing. As you know, it is a very serious condition that can creep up on your without you knowing. For your sake, and for that of your baby, please go and get checked out.

Q: nurses/doctors….preeclamsia question?
im 29 weeks pregnant.sometimes i see twinkle stars in my vision but today it got worse,i had big spots in my vision which covered about half of my vision, they stayed for like 20-30 mins. i got really lightheaded and had to lie down.after laying down the spots went away after a while, but then i tried to read a preg book and i could see the words but icouldnt tell what they were, like my brain wasnt working. it was very scary.
last time i went to my doctor i had a small amt of protein in urine. she said let her know if i see spots, etc.
i used the at home bp wrist thing and it said like 127/78 and then after laying down dropped to 100/62. not sure if this thing is accurate.later on after that i had a mild headache with light nausea.
i hadnt had much to eat before the episode. could it have been low blood sugar, high blood pressure or both? could this be a warning sign that i am getting preeclampsia? im calling dr tomorrow, do you think she will put me on bedrest?

A: Sounds to me like you are getting migraines with a visual disturbance. The spots, etc come first and then a headache. I have suffered from these for years and always got worse when I was pregnant. Check with your doctor.

Q: Fidelis Care insurance in New York state cover lap band?
I am 34 years old 6’4”, and currently weigh around 450lbs. I have been struggling with my weight for years, and have tried every work out / diet. I have lost up to 70lbs but then put it all back on, and then some. Medical problems are server sleep apnea, bad back, bad knees, breathing problems, high blood pressure.

Ok now that I have my back ground out of the way, my question is “does anyone know if Fidelis Care for upstate NY cover lapband.” Now I know I am going to get people with nothing better to do then leave comments like “read the broacher or go on their website.” So I am asking anyone that has a back ground with that insurance or who has gotten lapband with FIDELIS CARE insurance.

Also I have a doctor’s appointment with a family doctor in 3 weeks, and I am going to a lapband info session this coming week. Basically should I bother getting my hopes up or should I prepare for a letdown. I know every case is different I am just trying to get an idea from people who have gone through it.

I will give the best answer 5 stars, and any other good commits a thumbs up…

A: I really wish I could give you the answer to your question. But insurance is so weird. Fidelis Care does cover Lap Band surgery. However EVERY SINGLE company has a different plan with FIdelis Care. And most companies have to pay MORE in order for that to be an option. So you know what that means? Most companies try to lower the cost of their premiums for their employees and do not give that option. Usually also the option is only available for bigger companies with 100 or more employees so the costs can be distributed evenly amongst everyone. You do not have to wait for an appointment you could simply call them up and ask them if weight loss surgery is a covered benefit. They will tell you point blank over the phone if it is or not. If it is not do not get bummed out about it, you can still apply to have it and then appeal their decision. It is just an option.

I had my surgery a Gastric Sleeve in mexico because my insurance (premera blue cross) excluded weight loss surgery as a benefit. I could of appealed and tried to fight for it but I gave up and had it abroad instead and saved a ton of money. Check out my blog and let me know how it turns out.

Good Luck

Q: Im 23 and my dad died suddenly a few wks ago…is this feelin right?
Im 23 and on 4/12/09 but dad died suddenly and unexpectedly. He collapsed at 11am due to a bleed on his brain caused by high blood pressure which him and us were unaware he had, he was never concious from wen he collapsed and he died at 3pm the same day with us all around him. Sine he has died i cant get him out my head, it hurts known that a simple doctors check could of prevented this. He was only 50. It also hurts that he never got to say goodbye. I have a 2yr old daughter who is now missin her grandad and wants to see him but knows he lives in the stars. I can cope wen been distracted but wen im alone at night or in the bath or just in a world of my own all that goes thru my head is my dad and the tears just wont stop. I miss him badly and i cant see this gettin any beta like many people have said. Is there anyone who has been in a similar situation and how do you feel now?
thanks for the answers, i know im not the only one out ther who has lost a dad but you never feel you will lose them so early. My dad wasnt a cuddly person and even thou i didnt tell him everyday that i loved him i know that he knows iv always loved him and always will. Im glad my dad didnt suffer but he’d beaten cancer and a few other problems so i never thout that within in a few hours of him collapsing hed fade right in front of me. Xmas is never gonna be the same again, i just feel empty. Thanks for listenin aswel :)

A: Yes my daddy died this past July 25th. and I would just like to poinjt out to you though u might disagree its better for a life to be taken away instantly. My dad was my fav man in the world and he and my son were very close he found out he had cancer last yr….stage 4 and went through chemo and radiation and surgerys….. I was there the night he died, he hadnt eatin in days, his leg was amputated, his kidneys failing and the cancer had spreaded everywhere. I would have rather him died instantly than to see him suffer for a whole yr not even getting a break. something a doctors visit yrs ago couldve changed but he was stubborn. Its not easy trust me i used to be someone who would say “i just want ot be able to say good bye” but i think about it and its like you know what it was sad sitting by him in the hospital and i will never forget the day he told me “I dnt have no more time princess” I cried so bad because I didnt wanna say good bye, Im 19 yrs old and always have been a daddys girl, what is there to say goodbye to? Im sure u told him you loved him loads of times, he knows that, just like my dad i told him everyday I loved him whether through text or call or in person. Its not easy seeing someone u love so much die in front of ur eyes, u cant get it out of ur head. I know my son misses him and I do to, im strong but at night the tears just come out, i feel as if god gave me the best dad only to take him away from me so early. He was only 44. if u ever wanna talk message me and sorry for ur loss, because i can say this has been the shittiest yr of my life
I lost my daddy and my sons father who is recently my ex :( wasnt there for me at all.
