For more information about: what does a blood test cover visit the heart and blood site MyHeartyHeart.com today.

Q: What does a general blood test cover?
If you go to a regular doctor and ask for general bloodwork, what does it check for?

A: Things your doctor may be looking at are: sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium… there may be others in the serum electrolytes that they look at too. Then there is the blood itself, such as amount of red blood cells and white blood cells. (White blood cells are elevated with infection). Then there is hemoglobin which tells them how much iron your blood cells are carrying. They may also look at platelets which help with clotting. Some other things they may look at are cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels, and kidney function labs. I hope this helps. The purpose is to get an overall view on how your body is doing. If you are worried about whether they will do HIV/STD type screening, my answer is probably not if they did not inform you of this previously, but it all depends on your clinic. If you were to call the clinic where you are making your appointment, they would also be able to tell you what the doctors are looking for or they will put you through to someone who can answer your question. It is ok to ask.

Q: what does an annual physical exam cover?
does it cover blood test? EKC?

where do i find a list of all the tests that are performed during an annual physical exam?

A: You need to check your policy to find out what you have coverage for…many people don’t realize until its too late that all the lab work ordered by the doctor isn’t necessarily covered!

The doctor’s office visit itself is what’s covered as part of an “annual physical.” Anything else like lab work would have to be specifically listed as a benefit in your policy. You can either refer to your benefit book or call your insurer.

After you find out what is specifically covered under your policy, you need to communicate that to your doctor. And be aware that you’ll be liable for the full charge of anything the doctor orders that’s not “on the list.”

Q: What all can be detected throough a blood test?
If i want to have blood work done, what all will the results show. Will they show like cancer, diabetes, and other diseases or problems. Or will it just cover the basic blood count etc. How much does blood work cost roughly?

A: You have to know what you are looking for , or are trying to eliminate with blood tests. They don’t just draw the blood and it goes through a computer and comes out with perfectly accurate diagnosis.
If you have certain risk factors or symptoms your Dr. may do specific tests for those. If you are on medications they may want to check that. If you have other concerns, talk with the doctor about it. There are just way too many things to test for… part of what’s good and bad about technology.Good luck! Costs vary from a little to alot!

Q: How much does a thyroid ultrasound cost?
Doctor told me he felt and saw a mass in my neck and set me up for an ultrasound & blood tests. The blood tests are covered, ultrasound isnt until I cna prove my income to them.

WHat kind of price will I be looking for this scan, approx?
I am uninsured

A: Once you have an imaging order from your doctor, you can take it to any imaging facility. Even if the order is written on General Hospital’s form, you can get the service done at Mercy Hospital. Anyhow, where I work, we charge $300 for a thyroid ultrasound….

My best advice would be to look in your local yellow pages, and make calls for estimated costs at facilities in your area. Prices will vary depending on which state you are in….in fact, the prices can vary quite a bit between facilities in the same area. I work in a free standing imaging center, and we charge about half what the hospital (located in the same town!) charges. Look in the yellow pages under “x-ray” or “physicians – radiologist” and start calling facilities. If you call the imaging department of a hospital, make sure you get both the technical fee (for the cost of the procedure) and the professional fee (for the radiologist’s reading). Most free standing imaging centers combine those costs into one fee. Other things to think about…..find out if the facility offers a cash discount for uninsured patients. Also, find out if they can make a payment plan for you, if you cannot come up with all of the money at the time of your procedure. We ask for 25% down at time of service, and then we do a payment plan, mapping out monthly payments for the balance. Sometimes the monthly payment is fairly low…..$50 even. A little bit of research can save you some money!

Q: What does medicaid cover?
I live in idaho and i’ve been trying to figure out what medicaid covers, i went to the doctor before i got my card and they said it was okay but i’m just wondering if theres like a certain amount of stuff they cover…? i heard only three ultra sounds, no 3d ones…. do they cover the blood tests?

A: I’m pretty sure that medicaid will cover anything that is medically necessary.

Q: Blood pregnancy test?
I took a blood pregnancy test on Mon. (you can refer to my thread posted on 9/10) that came out negative. It was early on – the day after I missed my period – but, I assumed it would be accurate since blood tests can detect pregnancy a week after conception. But, I also read that HCG levels don’t rise early with some women, and it’s best to re-test. But, does that apply to blood tests, too? It should have picked up at least something, being taken AFTER my missed period, right?

The only reason I’m wondering is that I’m getting bloating, cramps, and tiredness, but it’s still not arrived. I skip periods quite a bit, but normally, I will not get PMS symptoms if I’m going to skip. My boobs have been sore for almost 2 weeks. I’ve never skipped more than 2 periods in a row. I found out that my insurance doesn’t cover lab tests. I have enough for the blood test, granted it is not very expensive (awaiting the bill), but not enough for another. I shouldn’t need one, right? There’s also no PP clinic w/in an hour of here. I made an appt. with my gyno for next week to try to work something out with birth control, to get my cycle on track. I could bring this up then, but I was hoping someone could tell me more about blood tests. From what I’ve read, I’m worrying needlessly, but I’ve never felt this way, physically, in my life. I’ve also taken evening primrose oil for the past several months, which is supposed to help balance hormones naturally – I quit on Saturday. I don’t think this could have a bearing on the test. My question is: is it necessary to do another blood test?
I spoke with a nurse from my gyno’s office who said that the test was conclusive. So, I’m going with that response – it’s what I thought from the beginning. I gather from researching that it is possible for hormone levels to not rise until later on in a pregnancy, but it sounds very rare.

A: I would take another test and if it comes out negative I would go to the doctor. My friend had pregnancy tests come back negative up until she was 4 months pregnant. some people just dont produce enough hormone.

Q: What is covered in the blood tests for a physical?
I know the question has been asked of what they do during a physical, however, I already know this by having one. What I don’t know is exactly what they test for when they take my blood. I know the basics is for aids, diabetes, general metabolism disorders, but what about other detailed STD tests, rare blood disorders, etc? Anyone know?
*in response to posted answer* Thanks for replying, the purpose of the physical was for the fire department. I know they tested me for aids, and I would figure they would test me for other blood born pathogents as EMT basic is required for Idaho firemen. Does anyone know what specifics they test for?

A: They do not test for HIV in a physical unless specifically requested. Even then by law you have to be counseled before and afterward. They also do not test for any STD’s unless you have any signs or symptoms upon your physical exam and the doctor would address those things with you during the exam describing what they would be testing for. Pretty much the only things they blood test for in a physical is your cholesterol and a general screening like blood sugar, sometimes blood counts (indication of infections), liven enzymes, etc. If your worried about STD’s you can ask for a those things independently.

Q: will roaccutane/accutane interfere with my blood test?
i have just been prescribed roaccutane/accutane for my skin. the Doctor gave me 2 packets but told me to wait for my blood test before i take them. if i pass my blood test he will give six months supply to take back to america (im in cyprus right now-can not afford it in US my insurance does not cover it). however my blood test is not for a week and i really want to start the medication now. i know my liver etc is fine and i know im not pregnant the only thing im worried about is that if i start the medication now it will interfere with my blood test and he wont give the supply. i cant get roaccutane in america coz my insurance doesnt cover it so i really need this supply however my skin is upsetting me so much im desperate to start it now. its so tempting. what do i do? will it interfere with my blood test?

A: Your blood test will not be accurate if you have it after you commence the meds. The blood test must be taken prior to starting Roaccutane as it is to measure levels of things such as cholesterol. Roaccutane can have the effect of raising your cholesterol therefore they need a starting point. You will then have another blood test approx 6 weeks later to see how it compares.

I was on Roaccutane for a year and I didn’t really see results for a couple of months so waiting one more week really isn’t going to make that much difference to you.

Q: What STDs does a piss test, test for?
As opposed to a blood test.

I know a blood test, tests for more, but what do the both cover

A: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV can be used with a urine test.

Q: How are u monitored while taking Clomid? I’ve read that there are Ultrasounds and blood tests. Can you tell me
which tests u get when on clomid, what they monitor and when in that cycle the test has to happen? I just found out that my insurance won’t cover clomid and any tests in connection with it. Are you in a similar situation and how do you handle that?

A: starting at about day 12 of your cycle, you will have to go in for an ultrasound every day to see how your follicles are developing. The ultrasound can be kind of expensive as well as the clomid. Then on day 23 you will go in for a blood test to get your progesterone levels checked. I did 6 cycles of clomid with no luck. It’s hard on the budget then we ended up having to do IVF, that really hurts the budget. Don’t stress, it won’t help in making the treatment work. Baby Dust!!

Q: For a 35 year old, what blood tests should be taken? What can I ask my primary care physician?
There seems to be so many….urine, liver, glucose (diabetes), thyroid, complete blood count, cholesterol…….Is there “one” word to describe this test if I want to cover everything? And I do… Did I miss any? I just want to make sure when I see my doctor, I don’t miss telling him what I think I need. Also, what other ideas or concerns can I mention other than blood work.

A: Your Dr. will request the tests based on your conditions / concerns. Standard blood work will include cholesterol, blood sugars, which generally indicate problems or issues to be addressed.

Q: If my friend’s pain management doctor suspects her of smoking pot or drugs in general can they blood test her?
My friend takes percocets 15/325 i believe they are. She got 180 of them this month. Her insurance covers them.

How accurate is blood testing for drugs? For pot?Meth? My friend is an adult.

I am asking these questions for a friend. I smoke pot honestly like once every other month only. I have never touched meth ever & never plan on it. It creates more problems trust me.

She went to pain management yesterday & they totally cut her off her pills & wont give her none. They told her they had a letter from some where. She didn’t say what the letter said but all i know it she got cut off her pills. I was maybe suspecting they tested her blood & they found out she had drugs in her system. I know for a fact shes smoking pot daily. I also believe she does meth every other day. She is not open about that with me so i have no idea. I also think maybe the doctor think shes selling them to cause she went threw 180 pills in a week & wanted more. No one could go threw 180 pills & go threw them in a week’s time.

What other reasons would pain management refuse to give you pills? If someone knows or has ever been kicked out of pain management please let me know thanks

A: Number one is when you go through 180 pain pills in a week, then have the nerve to go back and ask for more of course the doctor will suspect allot. These doctor’s have seen and heard it all. First off they will give you enough leeway for the purpose of doubt, then they will drug test you if it goes on. Most of them require you to sign a consent to do urine and/or blood testing when you first go. If yours didn’t it still means that they can ask, and if you refuse well you get suspected of most anything. Then you can also ask why too. The patient is at the doctor’s request to stay within the law too. They can also lose their licenses to practice and their livelihood for their wives and children goes down the drain. Before these specialists even were around we had to beg the family doctor with all of those hang ups and being so afraid to even give you more then a week supply at a time was the norm. Please give these pain specialists a break and respect what they do for us. If you need the pills stay away from the illegal drugs that will make it impossible for you to get them and if you don’t then be prepared to lose everything altogether and take the risk at going to jail where you’ll go cold turkey. I also learned a lesson the hard way, but then was very unfortunate to have a bad accident leave me permanently disabled and in moderate to severe pain as a normal feeling everyday. Then I was lucky enough to have pain management give me a second chance too. Good luck and God Bless

Q: i am getting a blood test done for an STI. But i need to lie about what the test was for…..HELP?
I will be in dance class the day after my blood test and my lil sis will be there too so its too warm to cover my arms but why did i get the blood test if anyone asks?
ive never had to get a blood test before so i dont know the many reasons one would get one.
i was thinking cholestral but i eat right and no need for me to get one for that.
i’m not sick in any way and dont want to say i donated blood incase they ask more questions and i have to make up more lies.
just a simple one.
im not sure if the bruise mark will still be on my arm the next day but just to be sure
thanks

A: People don’t usually ask unless you draw attention to it. If you ignore it everyone will think it is nothing worth asking about.

If anyone does asks about it act surprised like you don’t remember doing anything. If it is on your arm tell them it was the flu shot.

Q: Does my boyfriend have depression and what can he do?
My boyfriend goes through these times where he says he is depressed. He becomes very distant, does not hug and kiss me as he used to, is tired a lot, and is not into having sex anymore.

The problem is, he has a crappy health insurance plan through our work that really does not cover doctor and medicine costs. He cannot afford the blood tests or any depression medicine or even the consultation I don’t believe.

Does anyone have any idea on what he and I should do about this? It is really making me depressed to see him like this.

A: I have read many report on B12 and other B vitamins that are used to balance the chemicals in the brain. Here are a couple articles you should read regarding b vitamins and depression.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vitamin-b12-and-depression/AN01543

http://depression.about.com/cs/diet/a/vitamin.htm

http://depression.about.com/b/2004/01/19/forum-better-nutrition-needed-not-drugs.htm

Best of luck.. and always the best thing to do is to consult with a medical professional as depression is a serious disorder

Q: What if my blood test for pregnancy comes back negative?
My last period was on Feb 10th and i completely missed my March 10th. I had some light bleeding on the 26th and 28th of March. Not enough to cover a liner even put together. just light pink dots of blood. anyways, I’ve had 3 negative home pregnancy tests so i went to this dr and my urine still tested negative. The Dr says that’s 70% chance that i’m pregnant and wants me to come back in 2-4 weeks to see if my uterus has grown. So instead of waiting i found a dr that is willing to do a blood test for me and i went today so she said she would call me tomorrow with the results. What happens if it’s negative? Is there a change i still could be pregnant?
I’m soooo late that i’m about to miss my 2nd period. which would be due on April 10th.
I need to figure out what’s going on and why i haven’t shown a positive… or where the heck my period is hiding.

A: In general, a woman doesn’t really know for sure if she’s pregnant until she’s at least 4-8 weeks along. And in that case, there is a good chance that you are pregnant, even if the blood test comes back negative. But a missed period could be due to several other things. Like stress, certain medications, etc etc. Also, it depends if there are any other symptoms other than a missed period. Pregnancy symptoms vary from person to person but in general, symptoms include:

-Implantation Bleeding (that may have been what the spotting was)
-Fatigue/tiredness
-Delay/Difference in menstruation
-Nausea/Morning Sickness
-Back Aches/Headaches
-Swollen/Tender Breasts
-Frequent Urination
-Darkening of Areolas
-Food Craving (been craving any pickles and ice-cream lately?)

For more info: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/gettingpregnant/earlypregnancysymptoms.html

If the blood test comes back negative, the next best thing would be to go back to see if your uterus has grown, but your best bet would be to have an ultrasound done. And ultrasound (just in case you don’t know) is where the doctor takes a special probe that allows the doctor to see into your uterus and gently runs the probe along your belly (kinda like a video x-ray). Its probably one of the best ways to tell whether or not your pregnant. But again, none of this is effective until after the 4-8 week point.

Good luck and take care!

Q: nasua and vomiting are signs of heart attack…how long are u sick at your stomach if you don’t vomit?
heart attack

A: The onset of symptoms in myocardial infarction (MI) is usually gradual, over several minutes, and rarely instantaneous.[48] Chest pain is the most common symptom of acute myocardial infarction and is often described as a sensation of tightness, pressure, or squeezing. Chest pain due to ischemia (a lack of blood and hence oxygen supply) of the heart muscle is termed angina pectoris. Pain radiates most often to the left arm, but may also radiate to the lower jaw, neck, right arm, back, and epigastrium, where it may mimic heartburn. Levine’s sign, in which the patient localizes the chest pain by clenching their fist over the sternum, has classically been thought to be predictive of cardiac chest pain, although a prospective observational study showed that it had a poor positive predictive value.[49]

Shortness of breath (dyspnea) occurs when the damage to the heart limits the output of the left ventricle, causing left ventricular failure and consequent pulmonary edema. Other symptoms include diaphoresis (an excessive form of sweating), weakness, light-headedness, nausea, vomiting, and palpitations. These symptoms are likely induced by a massive surge of catecholamines from the sympathetic nervous system[50] which occurs in response to pain and the hemodynamic abnormalities that result from cardiac dysfunction. Loss of consciousness (due to inadequate cerebral perfusion and cardiogenic shock) and even sudden death (frequently due to the development of ventricular fibrillation) can occur in myocardial infarctions.

Women and older patients experience atypical symptoms more frequently than their male and younger counterparts.[51] Women also have more symptoms compared to men (2.6 on average vs 1.8 symptoms in men).[51] The most common symptoms of MI in women include dyspnea, weakness, and fatigue. Fatigue, sleep disturbances, and dyspnea have been reported as frequently occurring symptoms which may manifest as long as one month before the actual clinically manifested ischemic event. In women, chest pain may be less predictive of coronary ischemia than in men.[52]

Approximately half of all MI patients have experienced warning symptoms such as chest pain prior to the infarction.[53]

Approximately one fourth of all myocardial infarctions are silent, without chest pain or other symptoms.[54] These cases can be discovered later on electrocardiograms or at autopsy without a prior history of related complaints. A silent course is more common in the elderly, in patients with diabetes mellitus[55] and after heart transplantation, probably because the donor heart is not connected to nerves of the host.[56] In diabetics, differences in pain threshold, autonomic neuropathy, and psychological factors have been cited as possible explanations for the lack of symptoms.[55]

Any group of symptoms compatible with a sudden interruption of the blood flow to the heart are called an acute coronary syndrome.[57]

The differential diagnosis includes other catastrophic causes of chest pain, such as pulmonary embolism, aortic dissection, pericardial effusion causing cardiac tamponade, tension pneumothorax, and esophageal rupture.[58]

Diagnosis

Q: Another questionable Headline “Only 1 in 4 know heart attack signs”only one in 4 what?
One in Four Doctors? That’s Scary! Maybe…this is some sort of trick…

A: I’m not a doctor but I know them. It’s rather nice to know someone is alive because I paid attention. Gotta watch out for nausea, pale clammy skin in women. Even if your friend tells you not to call 911, do it anyway!

Q: seven signs of heart attack?

A: * Chest discomfort—pressure, squeezing, fullness,
or pain in center of chest
* Discomfort in one or both arms, back, neck,
jaw, or stomach
* Shortness of breath, may come before or
with chest discomfort
* Breaking out in a cold sweat
* Nausea
* Light-headedness
*Irritability/uneasiness of patient’s physical state, with ST elevation in EKG.

In diabetics these or most of the signs may be abscent only EKG will show acute changes or cardiac enzymes will be elevated.

Q: signs of heart attack?

A: Heavy crushing dull chest pain that spreads to the jaw and arms and does not improve with antacids, difficulty breathing, blueness of the face and lips, cold and clammy skin

Q: Is intense pain in the jaw line really a warning sign of heart attack?
I just received an email, Subject: Heart Attacks and Drinking Warm Water. Usually I treat such emails as junk, but this one I read. Is there any truth at all in this claim? And are people who “send this to a friend” just gullible?

This is what it says about heart attack:

“A serious note about heart attacks – You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.”

“You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.”

“60 per cent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.”

“Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.”

“A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message sends it to 10 people you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life. Read this & Send to a friend. It could save a life.”

A: I don’t know what the statistics of people not waking up when having a heart attack are, but it is absolutely true that not all people experience heart attacks in the same way. Jaw pain is a common type of ‘referred pain’ associated with heart attack. Some people feel it less like pain and more like a crushing or tightening feeling in their chests. Shortness of breath and nausea are also highly associated with heart attacks. The ER in my hospital often sees patients with “dental pain” who end up in our Critical Care department because they are actually having a heart attack.

Q: What Are Some Of The Warning Signs Of Stroke Or Heart Attack ?
My good friend has had a numbness on the left-side of his head (above the ear all the way to the crown) for about a month now and he won’t go to the doctor .

The numbness ranges from the top or crown of his head , to just above and then behind his left ear .

Is this a warning sign of stroke or heart attack ?

If not, then what could it be ?

Give me everything you can so Ii can convince him to see a doctor .
Thank you .
What Is TMJ ?

A: Honestly.. best thing to do is to convince him to WebMD it if you just can’t talk him into going “just because”.

Q: My father,6 cardiac arrests,52yr old male, blood not showing signs of heart attack, liver & kidneys ok?
He keeps going into Vtach..? venticular tachycondrial(?Spelling?) BRAIN IS intact, he responds to commands well.
The hospital he is at keeps postponing triple bypass, waiting on stars to align, how do I get him transferred to another hospital? What do I need to do to help give him a fighting chance?
How do I go about finding a new cadiologist? heart surgeon? I just need guidance, don’t know where to start…I am the oldest and have power of attorney.

A: Actually in the U.S. all you have to do is call an ambulance and tell them you want to transfer your Dad out of the hospital he is in to (the hospital you want him in) and have them take him to the emergency room at the hospital you are transferring him to. The new hospital will contact a cardiologist if you don’t know any and the cardiologist will contact a heart surgeon if one is needed. Your Dad may just need a change in medication to control his VT. Be sure you have your copy of medical power of attorney. Power of attorney does not cover you to do medical decisions unless it says “Medical” power of attorney. I know because I am my Father’s “Medical” power of attorney and my sister is his power of attorney which are 2 separate things. Check your papers, your Dad may have to get an attorney to add that you have “medical” power of attorney also.

Q: Are there any signs that a heart attack is coming, subtle signs that I should watch for so that I can get help?
quickly before it kills me? I don’t have anything wrong yet. Just wan t to be aware of what to watch for. I am 59 years old. I don’t smoke or drink, and I am rather active.

A: What’s your cholesterol? Even active folks have bad cholesterol. Mine was 185, not bad? LOL, there was no good cholesterol at all. Get it checked and live long and prosper.

Q: Could these symptoms I am having be signs of a heart attack ?
I have been having some uncomfortable feelings lately which I am starting to worry could be signs of heart disease or a heart attack, angina etc… I am atleast 100 lbs above over weight. I am on blood pressure medication for high blood pressure. The past couple of weeks I have been getting a feeling of pressure in my chest, middle, inner left side. Also, I am getting a funny feeling in my left shoulder, kind of on the inside of the shoulder next to the chest, on left side. It comes on every hour or so. Its not really painfull but just dont have a reason for it. I dont lift weight, have not pulled anything. To explain it the best would be to say that I get a feeling of almost a restriction, tightness, and even like its an itch inside my shoulder but you cant scratch it to get rid of it. I also get this scary feeling in my left side of chest which I thought at first was a muslce spasm or twitch but realize its a flutter. I am probably in denial cause I should get this checked out. When I went to the doctor about 3 months ago he did an ekg and said it was ok but still wanted me to get some kind of chest xray. I never went but now regret that. IF anyone could give me there opinion or suggestions please do. Thank you.

A: Van Bo and Vortex are telling you what you already know. I hope you listen to them. I’m going to say pretty much the same thing.

Twice now you had symptoms that made you think heart attack. Wether you were sure it was or not is not the issue. You worried that it might be. Yet twice you talked yourself out of getting emergency medical treatment. BillyBoy, you are letting your fear make a decision for you, not your intelligence. This is ALWAYS a bad move.

Let me put it this way, your imagination, the thing that is freaking you out and convincing you NOT to call 911, will eventually shut down, especially when the symptoms abate, and you’ll go back to your life like nothing happened. REALITY doesn’t go away. If you have the ‘big one’, all the crap that you really should be afraid of will actually happen, and it will be with you forever. If you think it’s scary now, imagine how scary your life will be if you have a heart attack that adversely affects every part of your life from that point on.

You definitely have a good story that would impress any medical professional that has a brain in their head that you need to be evaluated. Those two bouts may actually have been little heart attacks. Little events where for whatever reason, oxygen wasn’t making it to your heart muscle in enough quantity to keep it healthy. They may have been warnings. Heed them.

If you have a stress test, and I highly recommend it, they doc can likely fix the problem THAT DAY, before you have the ‘big one’. If it turns out you have some innocuous condition, like acid indigestion, or had too much caffeine that day, the stress test will show you that you are healthy and you won’t have to worry so much, which would be great, right?

I have met so many people like you over the years and I feel the same way now that I did when I started in EMS 15 years ago. I feel sorry for you. Your body is trying to tell you something and you’re so nervous about what it could mean that you never find out what it really is. Please believe me, this decision-making process could kill you. Is your life so horribly without hope or fun that you want to risk it over fears that may not even be founded in reality?

BillyBoy, call your doctor!!

Q: what are the signs of an upcoming heart attack?
My Father, aged 63 years, has had a heart attack in the past, about 19 years ago. Then he almost had another about 5 years ago, but I got him to the hospital in time. They then put a “stent” in one of his arteries. Now, he isnt feeling well, and i am just wondering when I should force him to go to the hospital?

A: As per the American Heart Association:

Heart Attack Warning Signs
Some heart attacks are sudden and intense — the “movie heart attack,” where no one doubts what’s happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren’t sure what’s wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

*Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
* Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
* Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
* Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain.

Learn the signs, but remember this: Even if you’re not sure it’s a heart attack, have it checked out. Minutes matter! Fast action can save lives — maybe your own. Don’t wait more than five minutes to call 9-1-1.

Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. Emergency medical services staff can begin treatment when they arrive — up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. The staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. Patients with chest pain who arrive by ambulance usually receive faster treatment at the hospital, too.

If you can’t access the emergency medical services (EMS), have someone drive you to the hospital right away. If you’re the one having symptoms, don’t drive yourself, unless you have absolutely no other option.

Q: absolute signs of an impending heart attack?
I want the absolute signs of an impending heart attack in women. Also want to know the absolute signs of impending death.

A: There are no absolute signs of impending heart attack in women or men for that matter. Signs and symptoms of an MI ( myocardial infarction) vary from person to person, however the 1st things that would raise my suspicion of possible MI in a woman would be, over age 40, nausea and possibly vomiting, dyspnea, diaphoresis, followed by chest pain with possible radiation to jaw, upper back and left arm.
Allways cause for suspicion and the need for a 12 lead EKG. Women are less likely to have an MI, but more likely to die from one because the symptoms are easier to to ignore or pass off as indigestion, gas, ect.
Asystole is the best sign of impending death, although if it is a witnessed arrest, with quick CPR your outcome is much more favorable

Inferior MI’s seem to be the most troublesome, followed by anterior MI’s

Q: What are the signs of a heart attack & how can some one keep from having one?

A: You feel pain in your chest ,Shortness of breath. Go see a Doctor they will be able to help you a lot better and give you true facts and information on how to avoid having a heart attack.

Q: my dad’s 4 blood test revealed that there are signs of heart attack, however, after his Balloon Angioplasty…
the doc, says there is actually no sign of blockage etc and ready to discharge the very next day (the doc seems to be very impatient and unwilling to answer my other queries)

isn’t it contradicting?

my dad suddenly suffered difficulty in breathing and was rushed to the a&e, after an CT scan was done, the doctor rushed him to balloon angioplasty, constant measure of blood pressure is around (150+/90+) pulse rate while lying down is at 80.

Anything other i should take note of? As tomorrow, I was informed another doctor in charge will be inspecting my dad before releasing him.

A: The blood tests you are referring to are most likely enzymes that get released from heart cells when they are damaged during the heart attack (search “troponin” and “CK-MB” for more info). These enzymes can hang around in a person’s blood anywhere from hours to days even though the attack is finished, so it’s not necessarily contradictory to have abnormal tests but no radiologic signs of blockage.
Your dad is at risk for heart attacks in the future, so you should help him with doing the things the doc will recommend (change in diet, exercise, taking his medications faithfully, etc.). Be on the lookout for signs in the future, like gasping for breath, sweating, or grabbing at the chest/arm.

Q: could it be early signs of a heart attack?
my friend said that she just woke up with a very veryy excruciating pain in her left arm and she has chest pains every few minutes, should this be something to worry about??

A: Call 911 for an ambulance, she should be sitting up, but she shouldn’t walk around because if it is a heart attack movement will only make it worse. As a former EMT I know that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Q: can this be signs of heart attacks ?
I had many EKGs, CAT scan, X-ray, Ecocardigram (might not spell right) it was some kind of heart ultra sound about 6 months ago. The reason was i had panic attack. The result of all tests came out perfect. Today I had chest pain on the left side of my chest 3 times already, each last about 2 mins. I also have discharge from my anus. I just want to know if anyone can tell me if it was excess acid in my stomach or it’s a heart problem.

A: The tests have been done 6 months ago, signs are present today which means everything may be normal 6 months (almost 180 days) before. We are all well aware about what can happen in 1-day? Get tested again if the problem persists otherwise it is transient attack due to sudden shortage of oxygen.

Thanks for that trish. Its actually my neighbour,(it was quicker to phrase it as I did rather than go into all the detail) He is a little concerned about these tablets,(he’s in his eighties).I told him the same as you,but thought maybe if someone on here had taken them with no ill effect,it may help him.I’m happy to report,I am fighting fit……thankfully!

A: I have just looked this medication up Karen and I agree that the side effects seem bad. However the legalities mean that the manufacturers have to put down all side effects even if just one person has suffered from them.

Obviously you need the drug so try it first when you are with someone to help. I’m sure you will be fine. I have to take a drug that I must be upright for half an hour afterwards and the side effects from that are awful too. Thankfully I don’t suffer them

Good Luck

Q: My son was recently diagnosed with Raynaud’s, he is 4 years old and has other health problems!?
I was wondering how often it is that a young child ends up with this disorder. My son has brain damage, Autism, A silent asperation, and some unknown syndrome. I can figure ouy if the raynaud’s has anything to do with all of this other stuff. Does anyone out there know if it is truly rare for a young child to have Raynaud’s?

A: You might try reading through this site for ideas on autism

http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/autism.htm

omega fatty acid is essential.

For Raynaud’s try vitamin E and magnesium
also the omega fatty acid.

Use sea salt instead of table salt and check for a nutritious diet for autism. Some foods, junk foods, diet soda, etc… are better to avoid.

Q: I need help explaining all of these symptoms?
Light sensitivity/photophobia
occasional blurred vision — sunglasses tend to help with these two a little bit
occasional to frequent brain fog
raynaud’s phenomenon (particularly cyanosis, but all three stages occur)
constant peripheral numbness (left ulnar, specifically)

once in awhile there is lip numbness as well, but it generally goes away, and it’s never really severe. it also happens when i give blood, so this doesn’t concern me much.

at first, a b12 deficiency seemed plausible, though b vitamins have helped some symptoms improve on occasion, i don’t think that’s the answer.

early stages of MS is a possibility, but i’m a male, and a lot less likely to get MS than a female, based on statistics.
Diabetes has crossed my mind, but I don’t show any other typical symptoms of unregulated BGLs

hypothyroidism is also possible.

Migraines recently crossed my mind, but I don’t get any severe headaches. I do experience what could be described as similar to a sensory migraine aura but i never get an attack. But other than the light sensitivity, and the brain fog, i don’t know how much migraines really explain. I’m not particularly sensitive to auditions or olfactory sensations

i don’t currently have insurance, but i’m still looking for an answer. knowing is better than not knowing. my doctors are not helpful anyway, and when i do get new insurance, i will find new doctors.

A: Try to get a job with some sort of insurance. You need to see a doctor. Raynauds can be associated with some types of autoimmune disorders such as Lupus. You are right that some vitamin deficiencies can cause this along with some types of anemias (B-12 deficiency would cause a certain type of anemia, but there can be iron deficiency anemia or other anemias that can cause this). Also, a heart condition could cause this. Anxiety can exacerbate any other illness symptoms, so try not to focus so much on your illness and instead, focus on being well and feeling good.

A doctor would really need to examine you. If you don’t have insurance, there are usually free medical clinics for poor people or the uninsured, but the extent of testing that they would do without any insurance would probably be quite limited.

Q: Pulse of numbness/tingling throughout my body?
OK, I am a 20 yr old female. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus this past April, but apparently I’ve had it for 6 years now. For the past year I have been experiencing intermittent pulsations of numbness/tingling throughout my body. It comes on every few weeks and lasts anywhere from 3-5 days, nonstop. It’s about an average of 2 pulses a second. It mostly occurs when I move or change direction. I know it is SOMEHOW linked to my antidepressant, Pristiq. Every time I miss a dose, or stop taking it for a medical test, the pulses come back, usually about 12 hours after the missed dose, but this last time it took 3 days to start happening. They start out faintly and get worse and stronger as time passes. When they happen I have trouble walking, talking, anything. I can’t feel where my limbs are because I lose feeling during the pulses. I was actually drinking a glass of water once and the pulse came and I couldn’t feel the cold water in my mouth anymore. The numbness only lasts when the shocks are occuring, as I stated about 2 a second. You can imagine how difficult this has made my life. I went to work today and ran into customers all day! I try to go through my everyday tasks but they’re so much more difficult when the pulses come.

I went to the doctor and they did a VNG on me. I have a vertical nystagmus of the eyes, but I do not have vertigo. I even went to physical therapy because they thought it was vertigo but I never got dizzy with the shocks when I was there, they said I was wasting my time doing physical therapy. I now have an appointment with my cardiologist tomorrow (I also have mitral valve prolapse) to see if maybe my heart is the problem. I am getting an Auditory Brainstem Analysis later this week (MRI of my ear canals and the surrounding brain tissue) and I have been told by my doctor I also need to schedule an appointment with a neurologist.

I just want to get this over with and fix whatever’s wrong. I already went through all the doctor stuff THIS YEAR! I had to fly to Pittsburgh to the Lupus Center to find out if I had Lupus. I am open to any thoughts anyone has as to what the heck this could be. They said I had a mild cause of lupus. I am taking 200mg of plaquenil a day, no steriods. I also take Yasmin, and 50 mg of Prisitq. I have stopped taking the Prisitq for the last 4 days to make sure this isn’t some weird addiction thing. So far the pulsations are still going strong. I looked up SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome, but that sounds like it’s just the effects of depression after you discontinue the SSRI, plus vomiting and chills. I don’t have that. Honestly I haven’t even felt depressed since I stopped the medication. I haven’t felt nauseous, but I always cold (I’m about 115 lbs.)

Here’s my medical history:
My aunt has Lupus, and another aunt has Multiple Sclerosis. My cousin has Epstein Barr. I had a hermangioma under my eyes when I was younger which rarely acts up now. I used to have high cholesterol that was induced by acutane (acne medication) but that was about 4 years ago. I had to take Lipitor for about a year. During that time I also had issues with high triglycerides, but that has since been resolved. About a year and a half ago I had issues with low blood sugar and that was fixed by just eating often. I developed a tic in my shoulder around 3 years ago because of Zoloft. I discontinued with medication and still have the tic a few times a week (it was about 60 times a day). When that was an issue I had a EEG done which showed a few abnormal results but nothing to be worried about because abnormal firings of the brain was normal in adolescents. I discovered I had mitral valve prolapse one day when I was about to fall asleep and my heart started racing and my left arms started hurting. I do have regurgitation but it’s very little. Along with Lupus I also have Raynaud’s Phenomenon which causes my feet to turn purple in normal temperature rooms. I have had an MRI with and without contrast, they said there were no brain lesions because of the lupus. I have been on numerous antidepressants for the past 6 years.

I don’t know if the Pristiq is what has been causing these horrible sensations or it has been acting as the TREATMENT for something else I didn’t even know was wrong, so when I stopped taking the treatment, the problem came back. I know some of you must be thinking, ‘hello, they’re gone when you take your meds just keep taking them!’ but I can’t do that, I don’t know if the meds are causing this and hurting me or not. Maybe if I keep taking the Pristiq the symptoms will just keep getting worse when I have to stop taking it and maybe even hurt my body more.

I need help! I was planning to move out of my mother’s house to go away to college next semester and I’ve had to put off my plans for another day because I’m not well enough to live on my own! I’m still stuck at my community college! These health issues are building up and slowly destroying what little life I h

A: Emily,

I honestly can’t believe that you’ve been going through this hell for all this time. I have MS, so some of these things sound familiar to me, but your MRI results came back negative for lesions on the brain which would have been able to confirm MS. However it is common to use a spinal tap to assist the diagnosing of MS when MRIs come back negative. MRIs are not the only way to detect MS. Check this out: http://tr.im/spinaltapms

Unfortunately, since I have MS, that is really the only thing I’m familiar with on this level. Although is has not been proven yet, it hasn’t been disproven either, but there are thoughts of the possibility that MS can be genetic, and because Multiple Sclerosis is already in your family, that would expose you to a higher chance of having it yourself. There is also a similar possibility of the Epstein Barr virus that may have a link to MS. http://tr.im/epsteinbarr_ms

Ugh, it hurts me to not have an answer for you. If I come across any information that even remotely has a possibilty of having to do with your situation, I will email it to you.

Prayers go out for your health and sanity as you try to figure this out.

Q: Can anyone help with diagnosis of health issue described below?
I am 29yrs old mother or 3, have definitive dx of congenital bilateral dislocating hips (need dbl rplcmt), narcolepsy, cataplexy, interstitial cystitis w/ hunner’s ulcers, brain dysautonomia from CO poisoning. I also have the following chronic sx: neuropathy in my finger tips and feet, pain n muscles and joints (early onset of osteoarthritis), nodules on skin, extreme sensitivity to smells, low range bp around 108/60, dizziness upon standing, motion sickness, raynaud’s phenom, recurrent shingles, sob, easily contract staph and strep skin infections, slow to heal, fatigue w/ intermittent insomia, memory loss both some st & lt, also had pelvic organ prolapse resulting in surgical repair such as hysterectomy, tvt, etc. which my body rejected the graphs used and cause numerous problems.

I am at a loss of what to do, I had to switch family dr and when I go to dr or any medical facility other than my specialist I am treated like a drug seeker and hypochondriac! I know my sx are real th major onset was 8yrs and over the past 6months my sx are so severe I can no longer ignore them. I have tried to research syndromes and diseases because I know that all these sx have to fall into something or maybe I’m a case study all alone. Its very frustrating to live like this at 29 and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I also seem to have adverse reactions to almost every medication so I try to steer clear of those also. (Sorry if seems like rambling…also adding details as I think of them. will gladly answer any ? to further detail) Anyway, hope someone out there might have some insight and help point me in right direction….Thx!
Saw neuro at onset but not since, they didn’t find anything at the time but since that time have found out med hx ie co poisoning and sx have become mush more severe.

Currently see urologist weekly for bladder tx, ortho for hips, fam dr is internist but a crappy one & sleep specialist. Someone rec rheum’gist & ortho suggest genetic testing his concern is connective tissue disorder like ehlers danlos on wait list but growing impatient…need to find shorter avenue for dx if there is one…give this further info anymore suggestions?? thx again for any and all insight!

A: I would suggest that you see an internist and an infectious disease doctor. Keep your chin up, you are physically ill, don’t let yourself think anything but. Do you get migraines or headaches with nausea? Have you had a heart echogram with bubble injection? Have you been tested for lyme? There is a retro virus XMRV similar to HIV that was discovered some 18 years ago but left to spread in our blood supply. It is the third known retro virus. Please check out the whittemore institute, they are also on facebook where you can talk to others with similar illnesses .http://www.wpinstitute.org/

god bless

Q: Multivitamins?
About two months ago I began a vegetarian diet, but I’m concerned about not getting enough iron/protein. Is there either a way to avoid eating multivitamins while still getting enough iron/protein required?

If not, could someone direct me to a recommended multi-vitamin/supplement product?

A: Vegetarian & vegans, do not need to take any multivitamins, unless they choose to do so.

Here are some sources of iron/protein:
Iron: Spinach, potato, beans (black, lentils, pinto, soy), quinoa, tempeh, peas, nuts (cashews, almonds), watermelon, meat substitutes, broccoli, seaweeds, dried apricots, wholemeal bread, raisins, prunes, dates, seeds (sesame, sunflower, pumpkin), chickpeas, black-eyed peas, legumes, oatmeal, dark-green leafy vegetables, cabbage, tofu, pulses, wheat-germ, parsley, millet, blackstrap molasses, tomato juice, soy milk, teff, whole wheat bread, cream of wheat.

Protein: Spirulina, quinoa, buckwheat, hempseed, and amaranth, & soy products such as soybeans, tofu, tempeh, and miso, nuts & seeds (almond, cashew, walnuts, sunflower), beans, (black, lentils, lima, pinto), TVP, lentils, peas, nutritional yeast, chickpeas, edamame, soy milks and other milk substitutes, seitan, meat substitutes, pulses, whole grains, brown rice, nut butters (almond, peanut), broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, grapefruit, apples, & strawberries.

Q: multivitamins?
I’m a vegan and i was wondering if i should
take multivitamins so i wont get sick.
I went to this health store in my town and
i bought this multivitamin called Multi-100
whould that be good for me.

thank you ^_^

A: The philosophy on multi vitamins is that if ur not getting enough vitamins from ut diet, supplement with a multi vitamin. But on the other hand you may put strain on ur kidneys from getting too much vitamins iin ur diet. Any multi vitamin woul be just fin I would think. If ur working out or something you would have to be more picky on which multi you buy. But since ur not U can get whatever you want.

Q: What type of multivitamins should I take to loose weight?
IM looking forward to lossing weight. I got info and workout routines but im not sure if thyey are good enough. Im going shopping soon and I need to know what kind of multivitamins to get. My mom doesnt really buy friuts just veggies and I need some advice. HELP ME OUT!

A: multivitamins don’t help you to lose weight they just give your body the minerals that it needs to stay healthy.

Q: What kind of multivitamins do you recomend?
Im 17 turning 18 in less than 2 months. I want to supplement with some multivitamins. I saw some multivitamins require you to be 18. Why?
Is there any multivitamins you reccomend I supplement with?
Would it be okay to supplement with those that require you to be 18? If not why?
Thanks for your help..

A: Which ones are you talking about. You do not need a multi unless you are dieting and not getting enough vitamins and minerals from your diet OR if you have a vitamin/mineral deficiency. If you have a normal diet, you are probably getting every vitamin you need from the foods you eat.

Q: Will taking three multivitamins in a day cause serious problems?
I take a vitamin every morning. Then I take some medicine mid afternoon. Well My vitamins and my medicine were switched and I accidentally took two more multivitamins instead of my medicine. There is no warning but It cant be good to have that many of any vitamin in your system. If anyone knows anything please tell me. I need to know if I need to buy epicath or something to puke it out.

Please no rude comments, I looked online and I cant find anything about it.

A: three mutivtamins wont hurt you your body just wont need them so you’ll poop them out (sorry if that sounds wierd ) but if you take like six or seven a day you’ll definitely have problems

GOOD LUCK! hope you dont start feeling sick

Q: How long can you survive with only water and multivitamins?
So you can live about 4-6 weeks without food, but only 10 days shaded without water. Although technically not food but still the most important nutrients, how long can you survive with only water and multivitamins?

A: No, not even close. When it runs out of calories from your diet your body will attempt to metabolize your body fat and muscle tissue. This will create toxins which will destroy your liver and poison you.

You can last 3-4 days without water and about 7-10 days without food. The 4-6 week figure is a bread and water diet for hunger strikers, not a period without food.

Q: What would happen if I took an entire bottle of multivitamins at once?
Not that I’m planning on doing it, but one does wonder. This is one of those multivitamins that gives 100% of pretty much everything with about 36 in the bottle.

Would I die? Would I pee orange for a year? What would happen?

A: you can become sick from taking too much of vitamins that are fat soluble such as vitamin A, D and E. the symptoms of vitamin A, D and E toxicity are things such as vomiting, dizziness, excessive production of urine, weakness, and in some cases kidney failure…Deaths from vitamins A,D and E toxicity dont happen very often..

Q: How can i tell multivitamins are working?
I’ve recently started taking multivitamins again but can’t tell the difference from when i was on them and when i was off them. How long does it take to reap the benefits? How can i tell they’re working? Is there a brand better than the rest?

A: Most reputable brand of multis have a high potency of b vitamins (Solaray, Swiss) .Your urine will be a bright yellow colour, this means that your body is absorbing and utilizing the vitamin b vitamins and disposing of what ti doesn’t require. As for the other minerals and vitamins in the tablet, you have no surefire way of know whether or not they are working, but if the B’s are then it would be safe to assume that the others are working as well

Q: Will the absorption of multivitamins & minerals be reduced after eating physillium husk?
I read that the effectiveness of medication will be reduced if is taken within 2 hours after eating physillium husk. What about multivitamins & minerals. I’ve been taking the husk daily for 3 months now.

A: Yes, it will. Any type of fiber suppliment will do that. Fiber works to move your stomach contents through your body quicker, so that you don’t absord as much fat & what-not. Because of this, it also works the same way with meds & vitamins, causing them to move through you quicker and you not fully absorbing them as well.

Q: what is a good generic multivitamins and minerals that i can take?
hello, what is a good complete multivitamins and minerals that i can take which is not branded, just generic? i really appreciate your answer. thanks.

A: Alanna, I recommend checking http://www.healthcare-boutique.com

You will find online everything you are looking for (especially if you prefer natural products).

Good luck!

Q: Is it advised to take Multivitamins plus Minerals pills while we know that some of them interfere with others?
Is it advised to take Multivitamins plus Minerals pills while we know that some of them (for example calcium interfere with the absorption of the iron) are interfering with the absorption of the others?

A: Use your own DNA to formulate the perfect nutritional supplements and have it custom blended for you.

Imagine if you could tap into the newest technology; utilize your own DNA structure to formulate the perfect nutritional supplements for YOUR body. Sound like the Future, but in fact the future is NOW!!

GeneWize, a subsidiary of a publically traded genetic biosciences company (GeneLink, Inc.) is doing just that. Genewize uses YOUR OWN DNA, gathered by doing a simple cotton swap of your cheek, and does an analysis of your actual DNA (a DNA Assessment). Based on the findings, they formulate a nutritional supplement build exactly for you, based on your DNA.

The ability to personalize and customize nutritional supplements based on your DNA and your lifestyle is now a reality.

Q: What are the benefits of taking Multivitamins?
I just started taking Centrum Multivitamins a few days ago to boost my immune system, I work in a Hospital so I deal with alot of sick people and I have been catching colds and whatnot pretty easy lately so I decided to try the multivitamins.

I have a good diet, drink plenty water, eat fruits, grilled chicken, I exercise regularly so I keep in shape. Im just curious to what other benefits taking multivitamins has other then helping with your immune system?

A: Most people these days live off fast food and don’t eat a balanced diet. They need the nutrients they are not getting through their diet. People who don’t eat dairy need calcium, people who don’t eat red meat need iron. People who don’t go outside in the sunlight lack Vitamin D. Vitamins are a supplement to your regular diet.

Q: Do multivitamins work or is just a scamm?
I don’t really eat balanced meals so i was considering talking multivitamins instead.
Do they really work?

A: Yes they do work but are not a substitute for a healthy diet. Buy a good quality brand as most cheap ones are too full of fillers etc to be effective.

Q: What’s the difference between these multivitamins?
What’s the difference between “One a Day Multivitamins: Women” and “One a Day Multivitamins: Prenatal”? If you were ever in a situation where you were out of your usual prenatal multivitamins, would it be safe to take One a Day Multi-Vitamines for Women? There’s no warning on the label.

This is hypothetical.

A: regular multivitamins are good enogh for just you
but if your pregnant you need vitamins for TWO
so i would choose the prental vitamins such as ‘pregnacare plus’
they have great vitamins for you AND baby and have a high folicacid percentage which is vitall
and also they have additional vitamins for your breast milk
best of luck!

Q: What is the best multivitamins supplement?
I am 15 years old. And I’ll be engaged in tough activities for the next few weeks. And I want to be at my best condition. I want to know what is the best multivitamins supplement that I should buy. My friends are taking some supplements too. (Please suggest products that are available here in the Philippines. thanks..)

A: any brand is probably good.
i think a complete multi vitamin capsule or pill would be the best =]

Q: Irregular heartbeat?
For about a month now I’ve been experiencing an irregular heartbeat, and also with even the mildest excertion, such as taking a shower, my heart will just pound and be racing as if I’d ran around like a maniac. Can this be an underlying problem from being overweight? I am due to have gastric bypass in a few weeks. And I have an appt next week to talk to them about this thing with my heart. Anyone have any ideas of what’s going on? Thanks!!

A: this is probably b/c u are overweight
if your getting gastric bypass i would hope you were morbidly obese, not overweight.

It also could be your emotions; are you nervous about the surgery?
try & relax

Q: Irregular Heartbeat?
So i had a physical done a little while ago for a job interview. And the doctor told me i had an irregular heartbeat, instantly i was worried.. but he assured me it was in the sense of a physically fit/active person.

Im 18yr’s old and have no medical conditions i know of. Im 5′8″, 73kg

Just wondering if anyone had a similar situation, i figured any sort of irregular heartbeat was a serious problem

Thanks,

A: Some “irregular” heart beats are nothing to worry about. If you went to an American licensed physician and he/she said you’re fine I wouldn’t worry, especially if you’re asymptomatic. The most common irregularity seen in young athletes is called sinus bradycardia. In other words; a low pulse of <60bpm. I once heard that Bjorn Borg had a resting heart rate of 38 (before your time but he was a stud tennis player in the 1970s.).

Q: irregular heartbeat?
my husband went to the cardiologist yesterday he has had an irregular heartbeat for 4 years he has had all the procedures and has a pace maker but it just keeps going back in an irregular rhythm he saw the cardiologist yesterday who said that they are going to leave it now as his body has adjusted to it and it is not dangerous has any one ever heard of this we are amazed its being left now

A: Its not unusal, some people have an ‘irregular heartbeat’ for years and years and it never causes any problems, the problems come if the rate is too fast or too slow along with this. So now he has the pacemaker it will kick in if the rate becomes too high or low (depending on what he got it for in the first place) and the rest of the time it may still be irregular but as long as its at a normal rate it will not cause him any problems and is def not dangerous.

Q: Irregular HeartBeat.?
Can a Irregular Heartbeat cause a Heart Attack,Cardiac Arrest,SCA?.

A: Yes, it most certainly can. Any arrhythmia or irregular heart beat requires investigation by your Dr to determine the cause and needed treatment. Some irregular heart beats are begin and others may be lethal. Do not ignore this symptom, have it checked, if chest pain, pressure, tightness or feeling lightheaded are also present it is a medical emergency seek treatment immediately.
RN, Cardiac

Q: What would cause an irregular heartbeat?
My husband occasionally would get an irregular heartbeat but lately it is becoming more frequent. I’ve listened to his chest & it sounds like it beats normally for about 5 or 6 beats & then beats really fast for 3 beats or so. He’s been tested for the stress test & had to wear a heart monitor for a day (a few months ago) but the tests didn’t reveal any irregularities. He wants to go see a specialist. Anyone know what this could be?

A: Is he on stimulants e.g. smoking, etc. well the cause is there, as far as how many irregular beats are there, it can be easily in EKG long lead. Please take your husband to a good cardiologist, and have him assessed, because as you have mentioned it is increasing in frequency. I don’t want you get confused with Holter’s readings, OK.
Be practical.

Q: What complications can arise from an Irregular heartbeat?
I just talked to my dad about an hour ago and he told me he may have an irregular heartbeat. I’ve tried researching it on the internet but its all too scientific. Can any body help me understand any complications that might arise from this or if i shouldn’t worry at all?
just talked to my dad about an hour ago and he told me he may have an irregular heartbeat. I’ve tried researching it on the internet but its all too scientific. Can any body help me understand any complications that might arise from this or if i shouldn’t worry at all?

His doctor had to run tests for it and i’m really worried

A: Generally, a persistant irregular heart rhythm is AKA Atrial Fibrillation. Make sure this is what you have as opposed to some abbarent beats here and there or a normal sinus arrythmia that fluctuates with respirations. If is it Atrial Fibrillation, then the risks are low blood pressure and formation of blood clot. What happens is, the top half of your blood chamber (the atrium) is attempting to squeeze blood into the ventricle but due to an interruption in the normal electrical conduction of your heart, the atrium doesn’t empty completely therefore leaving some blood left in the atrium. This blood left behind rubs together and the platelets form a clot. As this clot develops, it could be dislodged and hit anywhere in the body; coronary artery, brain, lung, etc. So, as long as you have this condition, you will need to be on blood thinning agents to prevent this from happening. Generally Coumadin is the drug and must be monitored through blood work indefinately. But it can be reversed through anti-arrhythmics, ablation, or synchronized cardioversion. Of course, you should try the least invasive treatment first with anti-arrhythmics (drugs). A good way to check if you have this is as simple as placing your pointy finger on your radial artery on your wrist (along the thumb side of the wrist), it will be a persistant irregular beat. The diagnosis of this condition is usually seen through EKG. See a cardiologist if you don’t have one allready.

Q: How concerning is an irregular heartbeat?
I’m 15, and don’t have any medical problems at all, but I have an irregular heartbeat. I’m not overweight, I excerise regularly and have a healthy diet. Should I be concerned by this or is it just something odd about me? I do quite often feel dizzy and lose vision when I stand up – could the two be connected?
Thanks.

A: How did you find out about your irregular heart beat? have you self diagnosed? If a Dr. has found a murmur or such, you need to go back for a check up and explain the other symptoms you are experiencing. Never put something about your health down as an odd quirk of your personality you need to get this checked out. Take Care

Q: What is a murmur in your heartbeat? And is it the same as an irregular heartbeat?
Went to teh docs today, and told me he found a murmur in my heartbeat. I had to get some tests done and stuff, but what exactly is a murmur in ur heartbeat? Is it the same as an irregular heartbeat too?

should i be worried?

A: I was told by my Doc that I have a heart murmur & that what it means is not that your heart skips a beat ,but that it will sometimes have 2 beats very close together & then a pause before the following beat & then goes back to normal.Mine has never caused me any trouble.

Q: is my dog supposed to have an irregular heartbeat?
she is a Pekingese and she’s 49 in dog years. she’s had an irregular heartbeat all her life.

also, is 49 considered old age for a dog?

A: Dogs don’t have a regular, steady heartbeat as people do..It speeds up and slows down much more frequently..Only your vet could tell you if her rhythm is normal..

Q: Does anyone know what causes irregular heartbeat?
I had a bit of a scare this morning and my heart was very irregular for about 2-3 minutes. I was admitted to hospital for a few hours for an ECG but everything turned out fine but not conclusive. I’ve had slight murmurs now and again over the past few weeks but nothing like this morning and it scared me. I don’t drink regularly, smoke, take drugs (aren’t I boring?!) and eat pretty healthily and I’m only 31. The doctors said they’ve done tests for thyroid problems which will take a few days to come through and if not I may need medication to make my heartbeat regular. Just wondered if any professionals out there have any further advice on what will happen if it is my thyroid or ways to prevent it happening anymore? Many thanks.
P.S. Thanks so far guys. I’m feeling a bit more relaxed already! By the way my heart hasn’t been fast, just the opposite. Felt like it wass missing a beat and fluttering like was struggling to beat properly but your advice so far makes me feel less abnormal! By the way I only drink one cup of coffee a day but my weakness is chocolate. Good incentive to diet I suppose!

A: I have had exactly the same thing. I am 34.
I had to wear a 24 hour heart monitor but there was nothing wrong.
The specialist explained to me in very simple terms that 99.9% of the time our heart beats and we are not aware of it beating. If we were, it would drive us crazy. The heart re-sets itself all the time without us knowing it but sometimes when it does re-set itself we notice it for the first time and understandably get scared.
It is so normal you wouldn’t believe it. All it is is that you are noticing it on occasions.
Keep off caffeine as much as you can as this can exacerbate it.
Go for the tests to put your mind at rest but I think you’ll be just fine.
I still get my symptoms and just accept it now instead of panicking (which is natural). It makes it go much quicker.
Good luck.

Q: What to do to alleviate irregular heartbeat?
My mom has been experiencing irregular heartbeats recently (sudden jumps in heart beat). She said it feels like it’s sucking air out of her like someone steping on her. It sounds like a classic symptoms of a heart attack, but she doesn’t have high blood pressure. I’m going to make her go to the doctor tomorrow. But in the meantime is there something she can do to alleviate the discomfort?

A: Tell her to take an aspirin, it will help, no coffee, alcohol or any stimulants, go to a doctor and they should send her for a stress test and if any irregularities show up they will do an angiogram, be careful, now I said an aspirin not dispirin or anything else, aspirin helps to thin the blood and lowers the risk of a heart attack. Peace,

Q: Should my maltese be neutered if he has irregular heartbeat?
When my 2 year-old maltese was checked up before surgery, the vet told me he has irregular heart beat, he recommended did more test cost more than 200$. Should I continue to let him does the test or just forget it . He eats fine, run fine, seems very healthy. Anybody knows Maltese has heart disease or nothing wrong to have irregular heartbeat?

A: Well, your dog does have something wrong, he has an irregular heartbeat. You’ve got to trust your vet here. If the vet recommends the test, before neutering him, then get the test. Its necessary to keep your dog safe.

Q: Why do I get irregular heartbeat when Im relaxed?
Sitting watching TV with my daugther I got this annoying irregular heartbeats. It occurs every 30 secs. I havent had them since last year. It seems to be coming back now? What cause it? Im not worried or stressed out.

Im 38, non-smoker, eat light meals, exercise daily, 6 ft, 200 lbs (losing weight). My cholesterol is 149 and its pretty good for my age.

Thanks!

A: I agree with Ares.
If you have them, it is best to let an ekg catch it so docs will know what is going on. That is what I have done.

I am 34, athletic, don’t drink/smoke. I have random a-fib, but after catching it, have not had it since.

Feel free to email me with your concerns, if it turns out to be a-fib. It is a process, but not a very serious or life threatening one.

Jeff

Q: What Exactly is an Irregular Heartbeat?
One of my friend e-mailed me, very nervous about the fact that her mother just went to the doctor on account of an irregular heartbeat. She’s very nervous, and I’d like to know what exactly an irregular heartbeat is. I tried looking it up, but I can’t understand what it is with all of the medical terms. Can someone please explain what it is? I’m very scared, I like my friend’s mom a lot and I’m scared of her health.

A: There are many types of irregular heart beats, the most common is probably atrial fibrillation. It happens when the heart beats at not consistent pace. The top part of the heart is not firing the signals in a regular pace so the bottom part of the heart that cause the contraction you feel as your pulse cant contract in a regular pattern. It is very common and very treatable. Many patients take medication to control how fast it beats, and also a blood thinner to keep clots from forming.
My grandpa had it for like 20 yrs before he died.
Hope this helps.

Q: What are the symptoms of an irregular heartbeat ?
every now and then my heart skips a beat and I’m concerned that I have an irregular heartbeat, I’m especially concerned because I run frequently and I don’t want to drop dead during my exercise routine, their was a kid on the local basketball team that dropped dead during a game due to an undiagnosed pre existing heart condition

A: you should see your doctor if you are concerned. Irregular heart beats (extra beats or skipped beats) are not all that uncommon and rarely cause problems, however it is a good idea to have it checked out at your next physical with your doctor. You should have a physical before you started your exercise regimen anyhow. I wouldn’t worry too much, but do make an appointment for a physical.

good luck to you

Q: what gonna happen to you if you got cancer, disease, hearth problem in smoking cigarette?

A: You’re not going to live in next few months. Unless you get some serious help. Do you have cancer or something? I am just curious.

Q: I need an advice, hearth problem!?
Im dating with my ex since we brokeup, but we seem like we were still a couple, new years eve we hangup together. Now, In my country we have a big party that last 3 days, everybody get drunk… he told me that he wants to spend this time alone, he wants to get drunk & doesnt want to take care for me, and now he is going to the party that has all of his ex’s, what should I do?, werent couple anymore so i cant tell him that hes gotta take me there..I dont know what to do..help

A: I think if he told u so then u shouldnt care too… the more attention u give
him the more he will feel like humiliating and trying to get u away…
just let things as they are… dont concentrate too much on the situation…
i know it’s difficult to do all this and try to forget this but u have to do
an effort… if he has to come back to u he will but dont wait for him…
try to find a better partner who would care for u instead of just thinking
about enjoying himself… gd luck dear…

Q: How you solve your problem when you broken hearth ?

A: It depends upon the gravity of the hurt, that is if you had invested in that person’s life you can visit the judiciary and they would advise you on property and all the like.

If it is was fling forget about it and go on.

good luck mery xmas

Q: i have breathing problem maybe anxiety?
every time a im overexcited after that im breathing heavy.I saw a doctor about that, and he say that i don’t have hearth problem neither lung problem.I want to know what to do.It getting very frustrating by time because it can last all day.I didn’t have this problem since recently i got mad at something and i kept my aggressivity inside me,maybe i think it anxiety or something i need some answer please it important.

A: anxiety can definetly play a role in this. when you are anxious your heart races so you need more oxygen, thus u have to breath more. check your pulse when you are breathing heavy. i bet its racing. just take deep breathes aand become aware of your body. just take soothing breathes

Q: Eyes, hearth,Chest, and breathing problem any doctor HELP?
Hi

My boyfriend told me that his left eyes now almost everyday do a white liquid bubble to one corner or sometime both and after his eye burn in the bottom. He sees double or not well after it occurs and that he can not stare big light at all. He said he happen when he his very tired. They are also dry and he put the over counter eye drop. He does work a lot of hours for example 6 to 5pm and than 6 to 11 pm and the day that follows from 6 to 5 pm. And have to study late night sometime until 2am for school in front of the computer or the books. He drinks a lot of “energy drink” to keep him up like red bulls or that new energy drink in the small red bottle in walgreens and he eat when he have time. One time he told me that after playing soccer he couldn’t breath that the side of his heart or chest hurt. Last time he has a reaction holding his head like he had a migraine to the left side, he did scare me, he told me he felt that his left side face was paralyzed for a bit of time and couldn’t talk to me. Help any doctors I need to convince him to go for a check up.

-I think about stroke because he almost overdoes heself, not sleeping well. Maybe allergy or eyes problem.

A: with all the symptoms your describing he could have an infection

<the white bubble in eye> Could be lots of things. If he won’t go to the MD he should at least get his eyes checked. What is the point of struggling to do all of this for school or work if he isn’t around long enough to reap the benefits. You have to take care of yourself or the rest won’t matter to a dead man. Tell him to quit being so stubborn and go to the MD. Good luck.

Q: Can you paint hearth tiles? and can you use them behind the fire?
Hi,

Having successfuly finished fire place 1, with the help of a Corgi man I am now looking at number 2 which I’d like to turn unto a wood burner.

At the moment its in a raw state – 2 victorian tile panels down the side that I want to keep and a big hole with some form of metal frame in (as well as a metal lintol). I have bought a front plate but am missing the dogs and grate (ebay can probably help with that). So I am left with 2 problems:

(1) The original hearth tiles were destroyed. I want to recycle the ones from fire 1 but they’re the wrong colour. Could I use heat resistant paint on them?
(2) The hole goes back further than the new grate would. Should I brick forward to stop the fire rolling back? and regardless of where the back is, can I use the same painted tiles here? do I need some sort of back plate?

I know the obvious answer to most of my questions is get a proffessional in but that takes out half the fun. Be grateful for any advice.

Thanks
On further inspection the frame in the back is one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Antique-Cast-Iron-Fire-Back_W0QQitemZ200156062255QQihZ010QQcategoryZ63518QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If there’s already a fire frame there I presume this will make life a lot easier?

A: Heat proof paint on the hearth should be ok, tiles behind heat not a good idea, you can buy purpose made chairbricks, but the fireplace may have to come out to fit it, there are laws regarding clearances, ventilation, hearth commissioning, flues (design, use, size and seals and commissioning), and certificates to be supplied to the effect of the above (if gas anyway, coal is similar).

Q: Beside be old: McCain hearth problems, Alzheimer, high cholesterol?
skin cancer, kidney problems, should americans know this conditions before they vote in november? and why not?

A: He USE to have skin cancer. You just made up all the other crap.

Q: Where can I find Hearth Throb scanlations online?
I’m looking for scans of the yaoi Heart Throb, by AKIRA Norikazu. It’s not licensed in English yet, but three chapters of translations have been released by the Nakama scanlation group. The problem is that their site has been off line for some time now, and it will probably be sometime before it back up again, so I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere else where I could get the scans. Thanks, in advance!

A: have you tried onemanga?

Q: heart problem, stress, or something else?
Randomly i get atacks sometimes my heart races and is on fire, or I cant catch my breath, or my whole body goes numg feeling, or I feel weak, or a combination of all?? Is this stress, a hearth problem, or something else?? About a year and a half ago i was having similar problems so I went to a heart doctore and he said everything was fine…now these problems are raccuring…Iam only 16 and have high clestarol but iam very thin…What is this mostlikely I had no history of heart problems???

A: You need to see a professional specialist…..also exercise and eat good food….since you have high cholestorol levels this could be most likely the cause of you problems…..change your diet now and be healthy….

Q: I have a deep scratch on the concreat hearth of the fireplace. I want to put a thin layer of thinset. Problems
will it adhear good?

A: that should work fine , they do however make a concrete repair and resurfacing product that they sell at your local home depot , if your in the states.

Q: propranolol problem………………….?
Anyone used and experienced this ?

I was put on propranolol 2 years ago and i took it each day for 1 year (for hearth problems)

It’s 1 year from when im off any medication and I’m feeling NUMB ,no feelings just NUMB ,like im in a state of confusion and fog.I know this is from propranolol but for how long?

A: You should report this to your doctor right away. It could get worse.
I use propranolol occasionally to cut down a tremor in my hands. I usually take 3 60mg tabs at a time, but I have not noticed the symptoms you described.

Q: What is a healthy resting hearth rate?
I was recently at my doctor and was being tested for hyperthyroidism. But my heart rate was about 72. I’m 5′3.5 and currently weight 94lb (which was part of my problem). Is this healthy, or does anyone know a site where I can check? Thanks!

A: You are small and light, so you will have a faster heart rate than most people – 72 is not out of the question for you, i would think. However, in general the lower the better: a lower heart rate is a sign of being fit in a cardio-vascular way. You can lower your heart rate by doing cardio exercise, such as biking vigorously, walking quickly, running, swimming, cross-country skiing, vigorous sports… anything which raises your heart rate for a significant amount of time. Be sure to drink lots of water when you exercise, and in general also: this also will help keep your resting heart rate down. Also,, getting enough sleep and eating healthy foods will help keep you healthy and energetic.

Q: Hearth pinch?
For the last few months I have been experiencing a slight pinching sessions in my chest about where my hearth is. The session comes and leaves throughout the day and is usely about “mild” at night before falling asleep. Sometimes it even feels like my hearth isn’t beating quite together.

I’m only 20 years old with no serious hearth problems in the family. Should I consider going to a clinic to explicitly get this check-out?

A: anytime you think something is wrong see a doctor

Q: Is Reduce weight fruta planta a life threatening?
Does anyone know if reduce weight fruta planta is in the warning list for being dangerous? Is it bad for heart? I have heard that the U.S Government have advised people not to take chinese pills because they are dangerous and can cause hearth problems. Can anyone tell me is Reduce weight planta is one s those? I ould like to take it, but I don’t know if it really is 100% natural and risk free.

A: You need to list the ingredients and ask a pharmacist.
It contains spirulina which can cause headaches and muscle pains.
It would depend how much of each ingredient is is one ?capsule ?pill.
It looks like another expensive hype aimed at people looking to lose weight.
There is no real evidence anywhere, there is some ridiculous stuff written by supposed customers. I don’t believe them or in the spurious claims made by poeple flogging it.

Q: HOW TO STOP MY UNUSUAL HEARTH PAINS !! HELP ME?
im only 13 and Im Having These weird Hearth problems !! Actually its not a pain At All !! its a weird Pain..it feels weird, I Can’t Explain How It Feels, Im Fit But kinda skinny and under weight !! Im Still Tall and Healthy, Im Worring Cuz it mite get a bit worse !! wel its not getting worse im just getting it a lot lately and its Making me Worry !! i want to Make it stop !! i want 2 stop worrying RIGHT NOW !! Im sick of This ..HELP MEEE !!!!!!!

A: Okay, calm down, you’re not making much sense. You need to go see the doctor. When it’s something like chest pain, you can’t just ask questions on here expecting a diagnosis. You have to see a doctor, and he can rule out anything life threatening.
It could be an infection, you never know. That’s totally treatable.
You sound a little stressed out by the way you’re typing, I’ve been there haha. Maybe it’s anxiety? anxiety causes stress, and stress can cause chest pain.
I’ve had anxiety for about 4 years, it’s under control now..but I use to get chest pains all the time. Now, I had a healthy heart, but the only way I found that out was through test.
Try to relax, and make a Dr’s. appointment.

For more information about: green tea and heart medication visit the heart and blood site MyHeartyHeart.com today.

Q: What is happening to me?
Ok long story short, I barely got any sleep last night due to the side effect of insomnia from a medication I am taking (will mention in a moment), so my coworker surprised me with a grande sized green tea latte from starbucks to wake me up. All fine, except I had taken my vyvanse (40mg) this morning before work.

It didn’t occur to me that the green tea latte had enough caffeine to affect my medication until I started feeling dizzy and light headed, my heart raced, I had shortness of breath, my face and hands were starting to get numb and I was sick to my stomach. This lasted about 3 hours and I started to feel better after I ate something and laid down at home.

About 2 hours after I started feeling better, I suddenly felt sick again while I was driving to my mothers house, with all of the above symptoms except now on top of my shortness of breath, my chest felt tight and my hands and legs were shaking. (Very scary while driving…)

It has been maybe another 2 hours since then and most of the symptoms have subsided except slight nausea, rapid heart rate, and slight shortness of breath.

Why has this lasted so long? Is there still caffeine in my system? Is there anything I can do to feel better faster?

A: Look up the interaction between caffeine and your med. That’s a stimulant medication, so yes, it is very possible that you’re just gonna feel like crap because you overloaded your brain. Specifically your med and caffeine are not good together. Your med is a long acting one so that may be why you still feel crappy.

It sounds like the caffeine affected you for sure. If it were me I would eat again whatever I can. The combination of not eating much, being amped from meds and caffeine, and then the anxiety it caused cause of all of that is definitely enough to make you feel crappy.

If this med is new then call your doc. You should NOT mess around w/a medication that’s a stimulant.

Drink some chamomile tea and eat something light. Drink water to flush the caffeine. Just chill and if you don’t feel better tomorrow call the doc. You should avoid caffeine on this medication.

I’m not a doctor.

Q: Vyvanse and Caffeine…?
Ok long story short, I barely got any sleep last night due to the side effect of insomnia from a medication I am taking (will mention in a moment), so my coworker surprised me with a grande sized green tea latte from starbucks to wake me up. All fine, except I had taken my vyvanse (40mg) this morning before work.

Why has this lasted so long? Is there still caffeine in my system? Is there anything I can do to feel better faster?

A: The tea doesn’t have nearly enough caffeine to cause that to happen. Your medication probably hit you harder because you missed out on a good nights sleep. It sounds like the amphetamines started making you feel strange and you panicked when you realized you drank the tea. Also, if you hadn’t eaten for a while before taking the pill that would be the most ikely reason.

Q: I am 34, 5 ft 11, 89 kg and have blood pressure 140/100. Will my plan work?
I knew I had to lose weight, but the high blood pressure really woke me up. I hope to get back to regular health and control by BP in 3-6 months time. If my BP does not go down in 2 months time, I will see a GP, but I want to see if I can help my body without taking medication first. BTW my fathers side has a history of heart disease and high BP and I don’t want to tell my family before I give myself a chance to control it.

Currently to resolve back to a decent health and lose at least 10 kg I am doing the following:

1. Cardio + strength training with a personal trainer – 1 hr/thrice a week
2. Dietary control: No juices/drinks, low card, no fats, no junk food, low salt
2.a No cigars – used to smoke one mini cigar a day
3. Supplements: I am taking the following supplements and plan to add a few more that will aid in controlling my BP and vascular health.

Supplements:

Current

Acetyl-L-carnitine500 mg x 2
Alpha lipoic acid200 mg x 2
Vitamin C1000 mg x 1
Flax Seed Oil1000 mg x 1

To be added

Garlic Pearls1000 mg x 2
Salmon Oil1000 mg x 2 (EPA 180 mg, DHA 120 mg)
Vitamin D31000IU x 1
Green Tea Extract500 mg x 2
Broken Cell Wall Chlorella 650 mg x 2

Are there any suggestions on what else could I do or not do to get back into shape over the next 3-6 months? Thanks for reading.

A: There is a non-medical device called Respirate which helps people lower their blood pressure but listening to tones. Its a type of biofeedback. I think the device costs around $250.

Q: I am 24 years old. 5ft7 and weight 170. I walk 2-3 miles a day.?
I eat normal. I want to loose 20 lbs. I walk but cannot hard core exercise. I have pacemaker and low oxygen problems with exertion. So, I do my best and weight will not come off. I gained due to many medications. Dose anyone have any other suggestions for me. I tried phentermine for 2 weeks nothing happened but my heart was going crazy fast. I tried green tea pills- nothing, and hydroxycut-nothing. my arms are one of my faulty areas. I was thinking about asking my doc to go to cardiac therpy to exercise, but idk. Thanks

A: I think you would really benefit from seeing a personal trainer and nutritionist. Given your health problems you need a professional to getyou on the right program.

Q: Could someone who knows about nutrition, and vitamins tell me if my list of vitamins looks ok (inside)?
1 Men’s health formula multi vitamin tablet,
1 D-3 400 IU tablet,
2 100 mg. Korean Ginseng capsules,
1 Cranberry Fruit 1,500 mg. soft gel which also contains vitamin C,
1 Folic Acid 400 mcg. tablet,
1 C vitamin 500 mg.

And I also drink a small amount of apple cider vinegar each morning. And I drink a very small amount of extra virgin olive oil, a very small amount of it.

I also drink a cup of kava kava tea every day, and I’m thinking about drinking some chamomile tea.I also eat a banana for break fast, and usually a hamburger for lunch with cheese and mayonnaise on it. I’m trying to lose weight. Some times I also drink a diet poweraide that is supposed to have all the vitamin B complex in it. And I drink plenty of water.

Does this sound healthy? And can you give me any tips on dieting? I want to eat more leafy greens like spinach because I’ve heard they are one of the best things to include in your diet. I also sometimes but some lemon juice in my ice water, but I don’t have any at the time.

I’m on some psychotropic medication, and one anti depressant, and a muscles relaxer, and ultram for back and knee pain. But it’s not a controlled substance yet. And I take all of my medication like I’m supposed too. I’m just wanting to make sure my liver, kidneys and heart are healthy.

A: You may want to check about the interactions of some herbal supplements with your medicines, i.e. ginseng and especially kava kava.
As we all know some of our medicines can make weight loss almost impossible so I hope you have good luck with that.
One thing I do take that you may benefit from is fish oil 1000mg gels. It helps heart health, lowers triglycerides and is full of omega 3, which by the way spinach has as well and perhaps you are craving it.
Everything else you take sounds very healthy.

Q: Does this diet plan sound good?
Take a look at the diet plan below and tell me what you think.

Rapid Weight Loss Plan

General Information

This diet is also a fast and is fat- burning. The key is that you will burn many more calories than you will take in. It will flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well- being. This diet does no lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time b/c of the removal of fat build- up in your system. Go off the diet for at least twenty-hours before consuming any alcohol.

Because each person’s digestive system is different, this diet will not have the same effect on everyone. After three days, if you don’t cheat, you will have more energy that before you began. After you have been on the diet for several days, you may find that your bowel movements have changed and you may need to eat a cup of bran or fiber. Although you can have black coffee with this plan, after the third day you may find that you don’t need the caffeine.

The Basic Fat Burning Soup can and should be eaten anytime you feel hungry… eat as much as you want. Remember, the more of the soup you eat, the more you will lose.

Definite no-no’s on the plan are:
• Breads
• Alcohol
• Carbonated drinks (including diet)
• All fried foods
This diet will not interfere with any prescribed medication. You can eat broiled chicken for the beef if you wish, but absolutely no skin on the chicken. If you wish you can substitute broiled fish for beef on one of the beef days. You need the high protein from beef on the other day. Continue this plan as long as you wish and feel better both mentally and physically.

The Basic Fat Burning Soup

6 large onions
1 to 2 cans of tomatoes
1 large head of cabbage
2 green peppers
I bunch of celery
1 package of Lipton soup mix

Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley if desired, or bullion, or hot sauce.

Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces and cover with water. Boil fast for ten minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. This soup can be eaten anytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want as this soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you will lose. Fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during the day. If eaten alone for an indefinite period of time, you would suffer malnutrition.
Day 1
All fruits except bananas. Cantaloupe and watermelon are lower in calories than most fruits. Eat only fruits with soup. For drinks, use unsweetened tea, cranberry juice or water

Day 2
All vegetables eat al the fresh, raw or canned vegetables until you are stuffed. Try to eat green, leafy veggies and stay away from dry beans, peas, corn. Eat them along with the soup. At dinner only on this day, reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Do not eat any fruits.

Day 3
Eat the soup, fruits and veggies you want. Do not have a baked potato.

If you have eaten as specified for three days, and have not cheated, you will find you have lost between five to seven pounds.

Day 4
Bananas and skimmed milk. Eat as many as three bananas and drink as many glasses of water as you can, along with the soup. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates as is the milk, but on this particular day your body will need potassium, carbohydrates, proteins and calcium to lessen you craving for sweets.

Day 5
Beef and vegetables. You may have 10 to 20 ounces of beef plus a can of tomatoes or as many as six fresh tomatoes on this day. Try to drink six to eight glasses of water to flush the uric acid from your body. Eat the soup at least once on this day.

Day 6
Beef and vegetables. Eat the beef and veggies to your hearts content on this day. You can even have two or three steaks if you like, with green, leafy veggies but no baked potato. Be sure to eat the soup at least one time.

Day 7
Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies. Once again, eat all you want. Be sure to have the soup at least one time.

At the end of the seventh day, you should have lost ten to seventeen pounds if you have not cheated. If you have lost more than fifteen pounds, stay off the diet for two days before resuming the diet from one day.

This seven- day eating plan can be used as often as you like. If correctly followed, it will cleanse your system of impurities and make you feel better than ever.

After only seven days, you will have an abundance of energy and will feel much lighter. Continue with the plan as long as you wish as feel the difference!

A: Sounds bland. I wouldnt be able to stick to it. Good luck to you!

Q: have you ever heard of a place called las encinas?
las encinas

sunken
deep deep into
some abandoned shaft
light never enters here
fish lose all their pigment
and shafts of bracing steel
suspend me
a furious burning fire
lives inside my stomach
alone
alone and lost
within my very bed
swallowed up
in my misconceptions

thoughts coming
in a long long time
no sense no reason no release
from the commitment
to finish
what we have begun
stick it out
to the end and
return
my briny flesh
is melted
into the night

but they say
no more scratching
no more screaming tearing madness
anymore
strapped in leather chairs
in heavy jackets
submersed in icy water
naked shocked inspected
turned inside out
and upside down

relating the litany
of this or that rape
that violation
of the heart the mind
or soul
they say no more

now instead restraint
dispensed from mini dixie cups
at 7 and 12 and 5
multi-colored pixie mints
with potent vapors
that warp their way
into our brains
dowsing the fire

and walking stiff numb
and altered
sensation slowly shrinks
until the demon’s claws
release me
enough for eat and sleep
and other basic functions

my friend marcie’s hysterical
every night and
they finally came
wrapped her in the gray/ green restraints
took her into the cottages
in the back

and the old man drinks coffee
mixed with tea
three, four large tumblers
he smokes cigars in the hallways
i’ve never heard him speak
or move his eyes

nancy’s joints deteriorating
she’s beyond pain medications
they say she’ll have to
lie in bed because
they cannot help her more

and paul
is blind, m-d and diabetic
admitted to our ward
because he will die
refusing his dialysis

there’s a day
that tilts upon us
it makes a different wind

these are my friends
they are people
i’ve come to know
all friends to say we met
from parts unknown
to share
one address

i’m all right
i’ll be well again soon
i’m getting better really
i am
i am

and looking now
at these wide white walls
now after many ages
seeing the thin cracks in the plaster
reading the names of the president
and the administrators
the plaques that say
they gave their lives
so we could live

and life goes on
i’ve seen it all before
people come and go
the crisis passes
all the funny pieces
all the pain
i was too frightened
to go insane
fear welds the scattered bits of spirit
and pain
helps bring the mind
into focus

las encinas
I’m sorry that it may not be clear what I’m talking about. Las Encinas is a mental hospital, and was a patient in there for three weeks many years ago. Many people have said to me, “Write about it!” And so I’ve tried to describe what it was like. This is the best I can do – so far – at least – in poetry. Poetry lends itself to depicting feelings, emotions, essences – not a full list – better than prose. So I chose to use poetry. I speak before university psychology classes about mental health. I get asked to share my experiences dealing with being bi-polar II manic-depressive. The students can read in their textbooks what that is, but they can’t get a feeling about what it’s really like. And if they are going to work in the mental health field, they need more than just the facts: they need to know about the human experience, and hear it from someone who’s been there and done that. I’m sorry my poetry is not better. I do the best I can. And I will try to do better. I thank you!

A: I have now. Very powerful, the sparseness added to the impact. Your last stanza stands alone in mastery. My compliments on this.

Maybe I will stop taking the vitamin C unless I feel a cold coming. That’s for the advice.

A: You don’t need that much vitamin C. Too much vitamin C actually weakens your immune system.

Q: Do you know of any famous people that have had the heart disease endocarditis?
I need to find this for a science project… thanx!!!

A: De Musset was a famous poet who commented on his head bobbing to the beat of his heart while writing to his lover. This same lover was probably responsible for the Syphilis that caused him to have an incompetent aortic valve, which caused severe aortic regurgitation. Years later the sign of “head bobbing” in severe aortic regurgitation is called the De Musset sign.

Hope that helps!

Q: Name some famous people that would have benefitted from a stem cell transplant?
like paralyzed- roosevelt, heart disease people benefit, liver trans plants, etc. just cant think of any

A: After nearly ten years of research, there are no approved treatments or human trials using embryonic stem cells.
•19 July, 2006 – President George W. Bush vetoes H.R. 810 (Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act), a bill that would have reversed the Dickey Amendment which made it illegal for federal money to be used for research where stem cells are derived from the destruction of an embryo.
•16 February, 2007 – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine became the biggest financial backer of human embryonic stem cell research in the United States when they awarded nearly $45 million in research grants.
•04 November, 2008 – The people of the U.S. state of Michigan passed Proposal 08-2, allowing Michigan researchers to make embryonic stem cell cultures from excess embryos donated from fertility treatments.
•23 January, 2009 – Under the new President Barack Obama, the restrictions placed on federal funding of Stem Cell research in the United States were lifted.
But a number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia.

Q: Comic Relief / Red Nose Day 2009?
Do you think that the giving to this charity should be coming from famous people who earn at least 2 million per year?

I think that some famous footballers/celebrities, should dip into their earnings and give to this charity and not keep asking us the public to donate. This would save the public from donating their money. (I do understand people enjoy doing things for charity)

I donate to comic relief, children in need and certain charities close to my heart like cancer and heart disease charities.

If 60 famous millionaires donates a million each of their earnings then they would have 60 million without having to come to us.

People like….

David Beckham.
Theo Walcott.
Simon Cowell.
Wayne Rooney.

To name only a few…Maybe they donate but I bet they don’t donate as much as a million pounds. Im sure that they would get it back in their accounts in interest….

A: Apparently Robbie William donates millions and is solely responsible for keeping thousands of jobs safe in Stoke on Trent, yet never advertises that fact. It was let skip by someone being interviewed that was asked that exact same question on the Radio

Q: Why does poverty remain the planets most wide spread disease? – essay …tell me ur opinion 10 pts?
Poverty is one of the most talk about issues in the entire world. A Dictionary of Sociology, by author Gordon Marshal defined poverty as a term in which the individual lacks the resources necessary for subsistence. But I believe the word poverty is much more than that.

Poverty is not only the lack of money, it is also the lack of moral values, faith and health. Our world is full of corruption, ambition and hatred. We have forgotten the words friendship and forgiveness. We believe that the only way to make it to the top is by lying and stepping in other people. We will rather loose or betray a friend to reach a job position. We read how famous people spend thousand of dollars in clothes and how politicians waste millions of dollars in wars, but when our community ask something from them they say there’s no money, they prefer to let people die of hunger, than loose a war. Worse than that we are loosing our fate, we don’t believe in anything, faith is what keep our hopes up. We talk about moral values, but we legalize abortion centers and drugs. And yet we all shout and cry as we hear how our world is falling apart, but still we don’t realize that we are the one who are causing this mess.

I think we can still change, we still have time, but first we must accept that the true meaning of poverty begins in our heart.
um sorry for the expelling mistakes , english is not my first language , im doing my best! .

A: First off your English is great for second language. But to get right to your point, the reason their is poverty is all our own fault. I completely agree with what your saying. And it all started at the beginning of this world when we first sinned. Thats when poverty, pain, misery, was introduced into this world. We brought it in and unfortunately we cant take it back out again. Its all of us proud, jealous, fighting humans on this earth that cause wars, drugs, etc… WE chose it to be this way. But on the bright side there is a God who can take away spiritual misery and bring love and forgiveness into our lives. Remember our life on this earth is only 70 years, maybe 80, and then we live on forever in either heaven or hell. There is no other alternative. Everyone expects heaven of course, thats what we come to expect to happen. But like you were saying the poverty is first in our hearts. If we can bring God into our lives and into the lives of those around us, we would be whole lot closer to ending world problems. But as we know this world is destined for destruction some day b/c human nature doesnt want a “God” to rule their life. Anyway I dont mean to preach at you for so long, its just that religion is a big part of my life. Religion should be our whole life! I wish you the best.

Q: Moon In Scorpio? Why the Evil Label?
Why is the description sound so unpleasant????

www.findyourfate.com

With the Moon in Scorpio, you may feel as though no one understands you. You are a fighter by nature, and are hot tempered. You stand alone in your battles. You fight with assurance and confidence in yourself. You are full of energy, and express yourself rather bluntly.

You are actually quite conservative, and resist change, especially if other people force it upon you. When you do change your mind on an idea, you stand fully behind it, and help implement the change. You are inclined to act out of irritation or anger. You like to get revenge.

You have strong will power and determination, but also a strong love for pleasure. You are quite familiar with the subject of pleasure. You have a strong attraction to the opposite sex. This will cause you great trouble throughout your lifetime. The Moon in this Sign is also related to death. Your occupation is probably related to death like a policeman, fireman, soldier, etc.

Males with Moon in Scorpio: Firm, determined, self-reliant and conservative. They can withstand the battle of life alone with courage, energy and hard work. Averse to change, difficult to influence, and obstinate. They will become very revolutionary and changeable.

Sometimes they are irritable, angry and revengeful. Have many children. Not favorable for mother and her side of family. Position of Moon does not favour morality and may induce drinking , often cause coarseness in speech and threaten some scandal to the native. Love of occult science. Fond of pleasure, comforts and desires, cannot tolerate any restriction or opposition. Danger through voyages.

Females with Moon in Scorpio: Scorpion Moon sign of ladies indicate plumpness and weight, dark or fair complexion, superfluous hair on body. Body is well-proportioned. Such ladies are arrogant, proud, jealous and vindictive. Of loose and bad morals, excess drinking and other vices. Strong constitution and robust health. Shrewd, passionate, revengeful, can do anything and commit crimes connected with revenge. Fond of spices and hot food. Cold blooded and heartless. Unsympathetic. They have many secret friends and associates, may gain wealth through questionable means.Throat affliction and diseases of generative system are indicated.

Afflicted Moon in Scorpio: When Moon is afflicted, one has disharmony in married life and difficulties with opposite sex. Makes a person passionate, sensuous partial and vindictive.

Famous Women with Moon in Scorpio: Lauren Bessette,Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Hurley, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette,

I steadfastly believe that Scorpios (sun/moon/rising) are given an overblown evil image they do not deserve fully! All I’ve met “can” be on the edge at time, but mostly loving at heart….

A: Tick tock’s description, colorful as usual. And metaphorically accurate.

All of this is bunk. Consider this: astrology is a form of bigotry based on what month someone was born and where the moon was, or whatever. These descriptions are given, knowing that you will recognize the ones that apply to you, (on the most flimsy grounds), and ignore the ones that don’t. This bunch of attributes could just as easily be given to someone of a different sign and they would agree with them as much as you do.

The people who write this garbage know that you will try and try to find how each description fits you. You may not be what someone would call “nosey” at all, but you tried to find examples of it, didn’t you? Heck, it might take you two days, but you’ll remember when you were six years old, you peeked inside a … and so on. Then you have the revelation that the description was indeed accurate. See how that works?

For fun, see how many contradictions you can find in those descriptions. I mean, “dark or fair complected”??? That should give you a real good clue about how bogus astrology is. “Plump” and “well proportioned”??

Anyway, you found serious contradictions in what this said about you, didn’t you? Now are you going to be bigoted against yourself or are you going to trash that whole astrology thing. Look what it’s already doing to your self-image.

Q: Is this an okay thesis for a college research paper?
Is this the way to write a college research paper? If I continue on writing in this way will I be doing it right?

Basic Thesis:

We can’t be sure of what reality is

Therefore it is safest to walk the middle way(live a life of moderation) (just a matter of reasoning), which will do much to [save] the environment (include qoutes from scholarly journals?)

“Because we live on a planet with finite resources and an ever increasing population it makes since to stop using more than we need and to stop producing more people than the earth can comfortably support. It makes since to take care of the earth that takes care of us. Because we ultimately don’t know what the true nature of reality is it is safest to live a life of moderation.

We stand to lose much of what can be considered the good in life by avoiding our responsibility to utilize our environment in a fair and just way. What would the pleasure in life be if we sat in stuffy offices and around the television all the time? The beautiful trees are the lungs of the world and provide shade to read a book. The sight of a child playing in a pile of leaves has the ability to warm our hearts probably a little bit more than if they were jumping about on a steel fixture in a concrete playground.

“The softest, brightest morning sunlight fell on the dry grass and the stems of the trees in the opposite horizon and on the leaves of the shrub oaks on the hillside, while our shadows stretched long over the meadow east ward, as if we were the only motes in its beams. It was such a light as we could not have imagined a moment before, and the air also was so warm and serene that nothing was wanting to make a paradise of that meadow. When we reflected that this was not a solitary phenomenon, never to happen again, but that it would happen forever and ever, an infinite number of evenings, and cheer and reassure the latest child that walked there, it was more glorious still.” (Thoreau: p 31: (2))

That’s the good in life. The profound resides in the simple.
What is reality? In his essay On a Certain Blindness in Human Beings famous American philosopher and father of Psychology, William James, so magnificently provides, “[H]ow insensible, each of us, to all that makes life significant for the other! … As you sit reading the most moving romance you ever fell upon, what sort of a judge is your fox-terrier of your behavior? With all his good will toward you, the nature of your conduct is absolutely excluded from his comprehension. To sit there like a senseless statue, when you might be taking him to walk and throwing sticks for him to catch! What queer disease is this that comes over you every day, of holding things and staring at them like that for hours together, paralyzed of motion and vacant of all conscious life? …

… The spectator’s judgment is sure to miss the root of the matter, and to possess no truth. The subject judged knows a part of the world of reality which the judging spectator fails to see, knows more while the spectator knows less…” (James: p 229 – 231)

The blindness of which James spoke, “…is the blindness with which we all are afflicted in regard to the feelings of creatures and people different from ourselves.” (James: p 232) “Each of us is consumed by our own construction of reality- our fundamental beliefs, our plans, our hopes, and fears. It is only with effort that we come to recognize that one does not know reality itself, but only the reality revealed by our particular perspective. There are other perspectives to be considered- other realities to be probed.” (Howard: p 5)

We have become very destructively anthropocentric; we absolutely must, if we are to survive as a species, concern ourselves with all of the web of life. Most of us usually communicate using just one language, and usually that is a human language, understood only by humans. But why do we talk only with each other? Why do we, for the most part, only embrace the other if it happens to be human? We find ourselves here in what is a big, beautiful world with many marvelously wonderful creatures and trees and beings of all sorts. But we made these ’sorts’, these categories that we call creature, plant, and so forth. But what does it really mean to be a tree? Unless you are a tree I think I can safely assume that you don’t really know; there is so much to explore outside of ourselves! “Imagine a world in which carpenter knows beaver, lawyer knows eagle, philosopher knows the silence of the deep night.” (Aizenstat: p 96: (11))”

Thanks!

A: Some English professors probably wouldn’t like to admit it, but there are many different ways to write an essay. Some people start at the beginning and progress steadily towards the end. Other people have to set up an outline and write individual sections and then link them together.

The way you write a paper will often depend on what you think your teacher is expecting. Just like “real life,” you have to consider your audience. So, pay close attention to your teacher’s instructions and try to please him or her (or whoever will be reading, grading, judging, etc.)

I would say that you definitely have a good start here. You obviously use citations very effectively. You seem to be providing good support for your thesis ans staying on topic. Your grammar seems to be in order. Your sentence structure is clear and concise, and you have a good level of vocabulary suitable for an academic paper.

At this point I would say that an overwhelming portion of your text consists of quotations, and that’s certainly a legitimate place to start. So you’ll need to expand on those quotations. Explain your interpretation of them, relate them to your thesis, analyze them, compare and contrast differing views, and so forth.

Another piece of advice that I would offer is to use plenty of what the English professors call “transition words” (http://www.studygs.net/wrtstr6.htm ). They help link your sentences together while maintaining a natural flow.

Good luck with the rest of your paper.

Q: Can you help me with my one sentence summary about this article?
Mickey Mantle played his way into the pantheon of baseball bods, and drank his way to the brink of death. So in today’s cynical debate over health-care priorities, Mick’s record drinking would drop him to the bottom of the list for a life-saving transplant. Chilling but ture. He’s over 60 and was an alcoholic for most of his life, a choice that helped make him as sick as he is today. Then there’s his age and hedical condition, which would put his chances at about 60 percent for surviving a liver transplant for five years or more.
The cynics would say Mick is a poor risk indeed. They are wrong.
Such a heartless and politicized point of view has gained strength ever since 1984, when former colorado governor Richard Lamm made the famous declaration that the terminally ill have a “duty to die and get out of the way. Let the others in society, our children, build a reasonable life.”he said. What kind of a reasonable life is it when politicians decide whether it is a good risk to save a human life?
But lamm had more to say on modern technogy, exactly the kind that could save Mickey Mantle. “How many hearts should we give to a smoker…how many liver transplants can we afford to give to an alcoholic,” he asked, implying that one was too many.
In Oregon, Lamm’s legacy lives on in something called the Oregon Health Plan, a “medical rationing” welfare program started in February 1994. The plan prioritizes 565 diseases and their treatments based on how effective the treatments are and how much they cost. Transplants for liver cancer patients are not funded.
Can we trust the politicians to do the right thing for the sickest and poorest among us? In Oregon, the health professionals decide what diseases and treatments go on the list and then a computer determines treatment priorities based on death rates and costs.
But the politicians decide how much money is spent.
No matter what the proponents say, the Oregon system rations people out of care simply by denying them medical services because some politician doesn’t like the survival odds or costs.
Fortunately, Mick won’t have to worry about getting a chance at a liver transplant. Get well, Mick, before the most cynical of the health-care reformers do us all in.
Like this format：
In the article ” Mick’s Toughtest Inning”(from The New York Post),Cathy Burke___that___.

A: In the article “Mick’s Toughtest Inning” (from The New York Post), Cathy Burke argues that all patients are entitled to organ transplants, regardless of whether they take good care of their bodies.

Q: what do u think of this essy so far?
THE DANGERS OF SMOKING
Juliana Okereke
Sec:7,8

All smokers must quit now!!! Scientists have discovered that smoking kills more people then Aids, alcohal, car accidents, suicide, and illegal drugs put together.Statistics shows that 22.3% of U.S citizens smoke. Smoking causes many different heath risks, coast a lot of money, and is linked to environmental tobacco smoke wich is known has second hand smoking.

Studies have shown that smoking is dangerous to a smokers health including the 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes that can cause cancer. In addention, smoking causes 30% of all cancer deaths. In 1982 Surgeon Genarl stateted that “Cigarette smoking is a major cause of cancer in the Uniated states”this is as true today as it was in 1982.But cancer is onley half of the heath problems caused by smoking.Smoking also causes heart disease, bronchitis, emphsema, and strokes.Addentionly, smoking can also cause Ostoporosic wich is a diesase that causes older people to become bent over and break there bones easily. Smoking is also said to shorthen your life by 14 years

Not only can smoking harm you it can also cost you a lot of money it is estimated that smoking just a pack a day can cost you $1,800 a year, but wait there is more smoking over the course of a life time can cost you $58,400.000 dollars!!For example smoker Barney has to pay $12 perday for one and a half pack of cigarettes that’s $4,380 per year. Now that is money you could spend on something useful like helping the poor, buying a new car, and also saving up on that some thing special you may want to buy.

Not only can smoking harm the smoker it can also harm the people around the smoker too this is known has second hand smoking or Enviromental tobacco smoke.Statistics says that 3,000 people die of second hand smoking each year. Furtamore there are 2 types of second hand smoking mainstream smoke and sidestream smoke.Mianstream smoke is when half of the smoke is inhaled of exhaled. Sidesream smoke is when smoke floats in the air.Second hand smoking can cause a lot of health issues like lung cancer, Nasel sinus, cavity cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and blader cancer. In addention too, secondhand smoking has a greater risk on children it can worsen a kids astma condition and can cause sudden infant death or (SID).

In conlusion based on my research on the dagers of smoking I think all smokers should quit because of its heath risks, expenses on ones income, and also its affects on the envioment. In fact in 1982 Surgen Geneal said that formor smokers live longer then continuing smokers. For example people who smoke that quit before the age of 50 have half the risk of dying in the next 15 years compared with continuing smokers. But even though 70% of smokers want to quit and 35% attemt to quit sadly only 5% succed in quiting.A famous quote I think has to do with smoking is “Cigarettes are killers that travel in packs” this quote tells about the danger of smoking. I think that if anyone ever choses to smoke they are making a very wrong destion.

A: The content of the essay is good but you have a lot of spelling and grammer mistakes that really need to be corrected. There are also a lot of run-on sentances. You should run it through spelling and grammer check before you turn it in.

Q: Can you pleases help me summarize this ( 10 pts)?
Odetta was more than just a singer. She used her classically trained voice and some guitar playing to channel the colorful and sometimes deeply sad stories that make up American folk music. Odetta influenced generations of musicians and became an icon in the civil rights struggle. She died on December 2, 2008, after battling heart disease. She was 77 years old.

Odetta’s voice sang for many. The highly praised folk singer gave life to the songs of working people and slaves, farmers and miners, housewives and washerwomen, African Americans and whites. She didn’t just sing the notes in the songs. Odetta “became” the people in the songs and performed as though she felt what they felt.

“What distinguished [Odetta] from the start was the … care with which she tried to re-create the feeling of her folk songs [when she performed],” Time magazine wrote in 1960.

Odetta’s life began in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1930. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, California, when she was 6 years old. Odetta started studying music when she was 13 and later studied opera singing at Los Angeles City College, where she became interested in folk music. She came to prominence in the folk music world in the 1950s.

Odetta had not lived the lives of the people in her songs, but she was interested in their stories.

“I’m not a real folk singer,” Odetta told The Washington Post in 1983. “I don’t mind people calling me that, but I’m a musical historian. I’m a city kid who has admired an area and who got into it. I’ve been fortunate. With folk music, I can do my teaching and preaching … . ”

Odetta used music to preach messages of hope, justice, and humanity during the civil rights movement in the 1960s. She encouraged African Americans to take pride in themselves. In August 1963, she sang a song called “I’m on My Way” at the historic March on Washington, the civil rights demonstration where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

During this time, folk music was experiencing a boom. Singers like Harry Belafonte, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan began performing and recording songs in which they expressed their views on civil rights and other issues of the day. They and many other folk superstars were influenced by Odetta.

“The first thing that [got me into] folk singing was Odetta,” Dylan said in 1978.

Odetta released album after album of songs. She was considered for Grammys in the 1960s and as recently as 2005. In 1999, she was honored with a National Medal of the Arts. President Bill Clinton said her career showed “us all that songs have the power to change the heart and change the world.”

In spite of her failing health, Odetta performed 60 concerts in the last two years. Her singing ability never diminished. Neither did her enthusiasm for singing. In 1983, she said that for her, music was still a way to express hope and grief.

“There’s always something to sing about,” Odetta said.

A: The first thing you want to do, in order to make this easier for you, is to summarize each paragraph seperately from each other. If the paragraph is small, you can merge it with the following or preceding paragraph as well. Try to break the main points of the paragraph into one or maybe two sentances. Personally, I would leave out irrelevant quotes (like the one in the third paragraph). Additionally, you want to keep everything flowing and chronological.

For the first paragraph I would put:

Odetta, an influential singer/songwriter and civil rights activist, Died on December 2, 2008.

For the second paragraph I would put:

Using her voice as a social motivator, Odetta brought the hard-boiled atmosphere of the 1950’s to life.

Anyway, I hope this helps. I don’t want to do you’re homework for you. I just want to show you how to do it on your own. You’ll feel better about it I think

Q: Moon In Scorpio? Why the Evil Label?
Moon In Scorpio?

Famous Men with Moon in Scorpio: Ben Affleck, Bjork, Eminem, Harry Hamlin ,David Schwimmer, Steven Spielberg, Patrick Stewart.

Famous Women with Moon in Scorpio: Lauren Bessette,Whoopi Goldberg, Elizabeth Hurley, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette,

Scorpio Moon- Positive Traits Scorpio Moon – Negative Traits
Sensual
Intuitive
Researching
Alluring
Strong memory Domineering
Nosey
Secretive
Compulsions
Slow to forgive others

I steadfastly believe that Scorpios (sun/moon/rising) are given an overblown evil image they do not deserve fully! All I’ve met “can” be on the edge at time, but mostly loving at heart….

A: At times I do feel some people don’t understand me. I’m not a fighter but I stand up for myself. I’m not the crazy type who goes out and seeks revenge, I rather not be bothered with the person/people anymore and keep my distance. I have a high self esteem and I’m very happy and confident about myself. But I’m not proud, arrogant or materialistic which is some of the things I hate about Scorpios. I can be secretive but I’m not nosy. I can become heartless if a person tries to hurt me but that’s if they really try to bring me down. I like to forgive and forget because I hate conflict and life is too short to hold grudges. All the childish and petty stuff is so unnecessary to me. The only time I can become jealous if my significant other gives more love and affection to someone else. But there are times when I can be wrong about that but this horrible moon placement is the cause of me becoming suspicious. I hate having a Scorpio moon.

Thanks!

Q: are celebrities our role models?
thats what the media would have us believe, “look at the perfect lives they are leading”

the following is from coroner’s report on brittany murphy:
“
The coroner’s notes allegedly claim a pharmacopia in Murphy’s bathroom cabinet: Topamax (for seizures or migraines), methylprednisolone (a steroid), fluoxetine (an antidepressant), Klonopin (for anxiety), carbamazepine (for seizures or bipolar disorder), Ativan (for anxiety), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), propranolol (for hypertension, migraines or anxiety), Biaxin (an antibiotic), and hydrocodone (a narcotic pain reliever). Gone are the days of shameful crack pipes and empty gin bottles. “No alcohol containers, paraphernalia or illegal drugs were discovered,” the report stated. If only that could help.”
salon.com

i wish the media would stop pushing celebrities down our throats. they are not good role models.
…ur opinions…..

A: If people believe that celebrities are going to be perfect, they are stupid and asinine. I’m not sure what you are getting at. None of that tells me the tale of a drug addict. Are you aware that people are diagnosed with panic disorders and suffer from physical pain?

Long story short, this sounds like nothing more than an opportunity to vent about how much you hate a certain celebrity.
