Q: I have low blood pressure, can I take xanax?
I have been prescribed xanax and an anti-depressant for panic attacks and anxiety. Problem is, I’ve also been experiencing a lot of issues physically – from a combination of low blood pressure and anxiety. I feel light headed from time to time and am worried that taking xanax will worsen the low blood pressure symptoms.
A: You should be fine and I assume your doctor prescribed the medication with full knowledge of your medical history. So if your doctor thought the medications are fine then don’t get worried. Doctors typically don’t give medications out when they can easily cause major medical complications.
Although Xanax is a CNS depressant it should not lower blood pressure. Benzpdiazepines (the class of medications Xanax is in) are well known not be be fatal on an overdose in part because it has little effect on BP, and respiration. So you might monitor your BP but I don’t think you will have a problem, especially if you are on fairly small dose.
Q: low blood pressure – symptoms?
the doctor told me my blood pressure was low…safe but v low….so what does that mean? is there anything i should/shouldn´t do? he just told me it means i will live longer and am more prone to fainting…
and is this why sometimes if i lie down/get up to fast i feel a bit dizzy?
A: Yes it is your low blood pressure that causes that dizziness. If left unchecked, in time will cause faint spells which means you will have bock outs at any point at any time. This would mean not being able to function properly if left unchecked. To my knowledge, there is no known pharmaceutical treatment for this condition.
Reasons for low blood pressure and dizziness are:
Not eating enough. Most persons who eat in small proportions throughout the day, accumulatively do not eat enough and thus develop low blood pressure. It is important to fill your stomach at each meal. (not overfull)
Also persons who have meals too far apart (two meals per day) will also have low blood pressure and dizziness.
You will develop low blood pressure if your diet is missing certain foods, such as green leafy vegetables and beef.
Low fluid intake can also cause low blood pressure and dizziness.
I had the problem some time ago. I was advised to consume more salt and alcohol. That dose not work. For short term relief drink something; preferably something nutritious like home made vegetable juice. Something sweet will also give you a temporary relief from dizzy spells.
For more long term relief, the following will help
Include in your diet green leafy vegetables (these you may include in your vegetable juices also)
Beef (beef broth usually give a faster relief)
Raw or roasted nuts and seeds
Complex carbohydrates (starchy foods, such as yams, sweet and irish potatoes) along with the other foods, vegetables, fruits, meats, and fish that you eat.
Ensure that your stomach is filled at each meal. And eat as soon as you’re feel hungry. (As long as you’re including raw fruits and raw vegetables in your diet you will not have a overweight problem.) Remaining hungry for any period could also cause this problem.
Ensure that you consume at least 10 glasses of fluid each day – mostly water. Avoid sodas or any other carbonated drink.
Ensure that your diet also include citruses (all kinds available to you); also cantaloupe, apples, apricots, asparagus, bananas, broccoli, eggs, kelp, okra, parsley, purple grapes, turnip greens, squash, mangoes, papayas, tomatoes and pineapple if available.
If you wish to add anything else, a good comprehensive multivitamins plus, will go a far way in a speedy recovery, however this is not absolutely necessary if you follow the above.
I do not know of a very low safe blood pressure level. I would advise that if you have not yet, you should check for anemia or hypoglycemia. Anemia is not always low iron count. Deficiency in vitamin B, A or other vitamins can also cause anemia which will result in dizzy spells or faint spells.
Q: What Are Symptoms of Low Blood Pressure?
Are the symptoms of low blood pressure the same as symptoms for Anemia.
Are they the same as these symptoms
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/anemia/DS00321/DSECTION=symptoms
A: “Low blood pressure” as such, does not exist, except in the minds of doctors, nurses, trolley-pushers, and the like, (you know, first-aiders, and “para-medics” etc.
There is no such thing, UNLESS YOUR PRESSURE SUDDENLY, DROPS below its usual levels… Then it’s a cause for concern.
And only then.
This is because everybody’s system of arteries, and other blood vessels, has roughly the same “resistance” to the flow of blood, and everyone’s flow is roughly the same (making allowances for age, body-size, etc) at approximately 5 litres per minute.
So everybody has to generate pretty well the same pressure pressure at the outlet of the heart, -otherwise the correct amount of blood wouldn’t circulate. The actual pressure is roughly 200 mms/Hg. but this is attenuated as the blood flows down the arterial tree, and appears much lower, down where it is usually measured, the brachial artery. But HOW MUCH IT IS ATTENUATED varies from person to person, according to several different factors, including age, sclerosis, build, and so you get lots of different readings, and so you perceive quite a different pressure with a monitor (or sphygmomanometer). But it’s only an illusion, of course; the original, GENERATED pressure is -just like everyone else’s, – higher, and actually controlled by your brain to be exactly right….
If you find this hard to grasp, then try it for yourself.. jump up and down a few times, and you’ll see how your “blood pressure” goes up .. The brain is perfectly capable of making the heart beat harder and faster, to raise your pressure when needed. Ask yourself “then why doesn’t it when I’m at rest?” The simple answer is that it doesn’t NEED to,… your “blood pressure” isn’t “low”… it’s exactly correct.. It’s the brain’s job to see that it is, and it does it miraculously well. Don’t interfere with it with tablets, just because some gent in a white coat doesn’t understand Physics…
So, ignore all the crap you read here on Answers about “low blood pressure” because it’s all hogwash. People will tell you about “symptoms” and what your readings “should be” but its all nonsense.
Relax , enjoy life, and you’ll live as long as the next person.
Q: How does stress cause symptoms of Low Blood Pressure to occur?
Please can someone tell me, I have tried asking before but got no reply that actually told me how it happens?
If you already have Low Blood Pressure, but in a healthy way so you get no symptoms. Then when you get stressed or upset you suddenly get symptoms for a while, how does that work, what does the stress do to make the symptoms start.
When I say symptoms I mean, light-headedness, dizziness, weakness and fainting.
A: The reason you’ve had no sensible answers is that scientifically, “low blood pressure” doesn’t exist. There is no such thing as “low blood Pressure” -except in the minds of the medical profession.
Whatever your doctor says, you haven’t got low blood pressure.
So let’s start again, shall we?
Our hearts all develop the correct pressure to drive the correct amount of blood round your body. (Unless you’re old and dying of course).
What happens to some individuals (who believe, -or keep getting told, by their doctors that they have ‘low blood pressure’) is that the mechanism which controls and keeps track of the variations in flow of blood needed (when rising from a chair for instance, or getting out of bed, -or even bending down then straightening up) is impaired for some reason ..- typically hormonal imbalance, but not necessarily.
So the pumping action of the heart is distorted and momentarily the brain doesn’t get the correct supply of blood. It soon clears, usually, but obviously the severity of the impairment varies from person to person
If you’re a young girl, it’s a frequent occurrence and 99% grow out of it..
That’s the top and bottom of it. Hope it helps?
Q: What could low blood pressure signify?
I can feel my blood pressure go down lately. I knwo what it feels like because I felt this when I came down with Anemia..however, I got tested and I no longer have anemia, but I’ve been feeling the low blood pressure symptoms?
A: Common Causes:
Low blood pressure is commonly caused by drugs such as the following
Medications used for surgery
Anti-anxiety agents
Treatment for high blood pressure
Diuretics
Heart medicines
Some antidepressants
Narcotic analgesics
Alcohol
Other causes of low blood pressure include the following:
Dehydration
Heart failure
Heart attack
Changes in heart rhythm (arrhythmias)
Fainting
Anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic response)
Shock (from severe infection, stroke, anaphylaxis, major trauma, or heart attack)
Advanced diabetes
Another common cause type of low blood pressure is orthostatic hypotension, which results from a sudden change in body position, usually from lying down to an upright position.
Q: What are some symptoms of low blood pressure?
Is fainting a symtom?
A: Low Blood Pressure has symptoms such as:
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Fainting (syncope)
Lack of concentration
Blurred vision
Nausea
Cold, clammy, pale skin
Rapid, shallow breathing
Fatigue
Depression
Thirst
Occasional dizziness or lightheadedness may be a relatively minor problem but it’s important to see your doctor if you experience any signs or symptoms of hypo tension because they sometimes can point to more serious problems.
Use a good Blood Pressure Monitor that is easy to operate and offers everything necessary for comfortable, quick and accurate automatic blood pressure monitoring.
Q: Symptoms of low blood pressure?
Every time I get up, I get really dizzy nd everything turns
black in my vision.
Is this from low blood pressure?
If so what are some other symptoms of
low blood pressure?
A: The dizzies I suffer from are from not doing deep breathing exercises and not having enough oxygen in my system, not from the artificial low blood pressure my doctors insist on!
I am constantly chilled and am wearing a sweater in 100 F temps!
If I mess up on my deep breathing exercises (yoga) I cannot stand and walk across the floor without hanging on to the furniture or sitting down suddenly for blacking out.
Q: Are these symptoms of low blood pressure?
Headache, nausea, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, pale skin.
Could they be caused by taking too much magnesium at once?
A: yes it could be because of low pressure. In case of magnesium I’m nor sure.
Wishing you health
Q: What are the symptoms of low blood pressure,like how will it make you feel and all.?
A: You might feel light-headed, tired or dizzy or you may have no symptoms at all.
Q: symptoms of low blood pressure?
What are the symptoms of low blood pressure and what are consequences in long term?
A: You can feel weak, faint and dizzy. You may not get all of the things i’ve put down. You could also feel a little sick, if you do feel faint put your head between your legs for a bit and you should feel better. Drink water too, if this is the first time you have felt thos way I would have a check up with your doctor like I did.
Catherine.
Q: Fainting-like sensation/symptoms… low blood pressure? why?
In the past month, this has happened about twice a week, but not even a year ago it was only every couple of months. This started about three years ago (at age 15)
It usually happens after I stand for a while (15-30min) (lately it’s taken even less time) (but usually its only when I’m casually walking or standing still – not when I run or work)
-vision fades until black
-hearing is muted (sounds exactly like when you plug your ears with your fingers)
-sweating
-can’t feel my pulse, but I can feel my heart beating faster (low blood pressure & heart is trying to compensate?)
-headache
I’m 18 yrs old, 5′5″, 130 lbs, eat like a pig and have added more salt to my diet to maybe prevent this. I exercise regularly (run about 2 miles 3 times a week, bike 30-40 miles on weekends). I’ve never had an eating disorder, never drunk, never been on drugs.
Only once I actually fainted, the other times I caught myself and sat down before it knocked me down.
Thanks so much!!
A: it sounds like what you have is vasovagal or neurocardiogenic syncope. Essentially this means that the nervous system reflexes that are responsible for maintaining your blood pressure are not working normally. There are tests to confirm this diagnosis(tilt table) and a variety of different treatments including medication. Get this evaluated before you fall down and hurt yourself.
Q: What’s the differance between symptoms of:low blood sugar and low blood pressure?
A: Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia) symptoms include:
* hunger
* nervousness and shakiness
* perspiration
* dizziness or light-headedness
* sleepiness
* confusion
* difficulty speaking
* feeling anxious or weak
Low blood pressure (Hypotension) symptoms include: fainting
dizziness
light headedness
occasional palpitations
blurred vision
and even confusion.
As you can see they are somewhat similar but are easily distinguished with a simple test of blood pressure and glucose finger prick.
Q: What causes high and low blood pressure, and what are the symptoms of high and low blood pressure?
A: These two types of blood pressure very from person to person. High blood pressure can come from:
Thyroid problems-this rises the pressure above normal and causes the heart to over work, thus causing it to grow in size (Enlarged Heart) which the walls of the outer muscle will “pinch” the heart and leaving no space for the heart to function properly. This will cause discomfort on the left side, irregular heart beats, bradycardia (sloww heart), shortness of breath, and tiredness that is frequent.
Too much sodium-Salt is one of the most causes of high blood pressure. Food does come natually salted, but people love to “over salt” their foods. Even though McDonalds pours salt on the fries many add extra for the taste which in time will cause heart problems.
Constant stress,tensions,forced activities-Some times a person feels great exercizing.But you have to watch, because even though exercise is good for the heart, over doing it and going beyond the bodies limits will cause the heart to over work, rising up the flow of the blood thus causing the pressure to rise more than normal. This constant unessesary rise will later convert to high blood pressure that will not go down unless medication is used.
For thyroid problems Sintroid and Levoxil are just two of the medications to take along with Vasotec,Norvasc and other medication that will reduce the pressure and ge the thyroids functioning properly. This goes along with a well balanced diet. This diet is eliminating at least more than half the added salt, no sodas, less starchy foods, and no salty snacks such as chips, Doritos and the rest.
Low blood pressure is no rare. Many people have low blood pressure because they are always active, don’t spend the day infront of the tv, eat lots of fruits,veggies and rest properly. Also this is in a few cases hereditary. Low blood pressure will make a person feel cooler on a hot day more than a person with high blood pressure. For those with low blood pressure, there is realy no problem because the pressure will remain normal such as 100/80,90/75 these are normal if the person all their lives have been like this. But for a person who is always 120/80 or more then this sudden low blood pressure means there is trouble. The rate of the heart pumping blood through the body is slow. The heart has the left and right ventricals. Blood goes through the ventricals and as it goes through there are like little valves that work as is they were like gates. The bottom one opens lets a flow of blood through, then closes so the upper one opens and lets the blood continue to flow. Here the blood that flows in and out of the heart is read by the blood pressure. People with low blood pressure feel normal and carry on normal every day lives. But still, they will have to do monitoring at least once a day to keep an eye on any changes.
High blood pressure symptoms no matter what the cause is: shortness of breath, dizzyness, heat spells, fainting, heart beats irregular, blood flows faster forcing the heart to work more and you will in most people feel like the back of your neck is stiff and hurting, your left side will feel numb, the left side of the chest will hurt, and you feel as if your chest will explode. Some say that if they touch their chest it hurts-this is not a sympton. It does not hurt to the touch, this is just inflamation, but it will hurt without touching and it will be deep inside the chest in the center.
Low blood pressure-if not in a normar person with it will cause dizzyness, fainting, hard of breathing but only if it is not a normal thing for a person. I know of many with normal low blood pressure and are active people. For one that does not have normal low pressure all their lives, means that the heart is slow and a possibility of a pace maker or surgery may be performed to correct this. A heart murmer for one, will be also a cause for low blood pressure in some people. Chest pains will be present. But in all cases it does not hurt anyone to take their blood pressure and monitor it once a day. Now just because a person has 120/80 in the morning and at noon has 130/90, this is because of the stress of the morning, too much coffee which does cause high blood pressure and too much of being over worked will cause it to rise. If a persons pressure is normaly 80/75 and it does go up to 120/80 then this person also will have to go to a doctor because this is not normal. 120/80 is normal for all but there are people with normal readings of under 120/80. My husbands norma reading is 90/75 for him this is normal and his heart if good as new and he feels great, eats less of salt foods and does get his rest as needed. Me on the other hand, I suffer non-normal high blood pressure mine will go up 159/100. I do take medication 3 kinds and also throid medication, reduce my salt intake, walk a lot, but still I won’t go down and I do have an enlarged heart that on my left side does hurt, and I do always have the symptoms, but I do take
Q: What are the causes of low blood pressure and bradycardia which result in symptoms?
So I mean not like when it is just naturally that way, or because you are really fit…
What causes these things when they produce symptoms?
A: Certain heart conditions can cause low blood pressure when the heart is unable to pump enough blood. Heart attack, bradycardia, or low heart rate,

Q: is low blood pressure a symptom of pregnancy? can you be pregnant with low blood presssure?
i just came from the doctor and i just figured out that i have low blood pressure. i was just wondering was that a symptom of pregnancy because i have been having sex with my husband the past couple of days
A: my blood pressure got much lower throughout my pregnancy. it was never ‘high’ just normal, now it’s on the lower side.
this is common, but does not necessarily mean you are pregnant. any other signs or symptoms?
take a test if you miss your period.
